The Department of Fine Arts at Auburn University at Montgomery invites applications for an Assistant Professor in 2D and Digital Arts. Applicants must have a background in studio art and interest in building a digital arts curriculum of which digital illustration must be a component. AUM has an official 4/3 teaching load. Faculty with ongoing research and creative activity resulting in publications or juried shows usually receive a course release for a normal 3/3 load. Internal funding and professional improvement leave to support creative activity are available. Participation in assessment is expected and service to the department must be provided as needed. Willingness to assist in the recruitment and retention of students is required.Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have a Master of Fine Arts degree from an accredited institution by August 16, 2023 in either studio art or digital arts. Evidence of professional excellence in undergraduate teaching and the ability to instruct students from diverse backgrounds is desired. Candidate with at least three years of full-time teaching experience at the undergraduate level is preferred.
Position Description: The successful candidate will teach both traditional 2D arts and digital courses including drawing and digital illustration classes. Class load will be commensurate with the needs of the department. We are especially interested in a candidate who can incorporate both traditional 2D arts and digital instruction in the classroom. For example, a candidate who can discuss color theory in a pigment based world and translate that to a digital one is preferred. Experience with software programs such as Clip Studio Paint is necessary.
