Major Responsibilities

The Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is a staff position and a member of the school's leadership team that provides professional expertise, strategic leadership, administrative oversight, and collaborative guidance for this mission-centric priority area. The Associate Dean works collaboratively to develop and implement effective policies, practices and initiatives. Reporting to Tejal Desai, the Dean of Engineering and working closely with the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity, and other senior leaders, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring diversity, equity and inclusion values that are infused across the organization through key organizational and programmatic initiatives, expanding outreach, and contributing expert knowledge and skills.

Job Qualifications

Education and Experience

Advanced degree required (Master's required, PhD or equivalent preferred;) preference for those with a background in STEM.

Minimum 6-8 years of administrative leadership experience at an institution, preferably higher education or equivalent combination of education and experience.

A record of leadership positions with progressively increased responsibility that underscore a clear commitment to advancing equity, diversity, inclusion and/or social justice. Demonstrated ability to apply best practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Proven track record of success in developing and implementing diversity and inclusion initiatives and programs in a complex environment, preferably in higher education.

Capacity for building bridges, partnerships and trust with a diverse set of constituencies, including faculty, postdocs, students and staff from a broad array of scientific disciplines and areas.

Sensitivity to and understanding of individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Experience creating and delivering mission-driven professional development curricula/ trainings/ workshops addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion utilizing an anti-racist framework.

Possess the drive and talent for supporting and promoting a diverse and inclusive campus community that is essential to overall excellence in teaching, learning, research and engagement.

Demonstrated ability to cultivate a sense of community composed of individuals of diverse perspectives, experiences and identities.
