Department Statement:
The Office of Equity and Diversity (OED) leads Colgate University efforts in building and fostering an inclusive campus climate that empowers all members of our community values our diverse and intersecting identities and affiliations. The OED works collaboratively across campus to address and eliminate institutionalized forms of bias and is a leading voice in the shaping and reshaping of Colgate’s strategic plan for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as part of Colgate’s Third Century Plan. The University’s commitment to diversity means understanding that each individual is unique and appreciating our differences enriches our campus culture and the quality of campus life. The OED also oversees and ensures compliance with policies and laws relating to affirmative action, discrimination and harassment.
Accountabilities:
This position is responsible for contributing to the University's strategic diversity, equity and inclusion values and initiatives by developing strategic, creative, and innovative outreach and strategies driven by data analysis, cultivating relationships and building capacity for change. This work will be most effective with exceptional interpersonal, organizational and creative skills that inform the development of training programs to communicate information to stakeholders in an effective and compelling manner to build employee skills to recognize and address implicit bias and ensure compliance with regulatory policies and procedures (i.e. EEO/AA, Veterans, Disability) including:
- Lead and support the university's strategic initiatives to increase the demographic diversity of faculty, staff and students and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to Equal Employment and Affirmative Action.
- Develop and design training and development presentations and workshops related to implicit bias, anti-racism, privilege and other various diversity, equity and inclusion skills.
- Effectively organize, refine and communicate complex data in a way that is easy to digest, to a variety of stakeholders.
- Develop, compile, analyze and assess complex data, including producing timely reports related to federally mandated EEO/AA related reports, such as the Vets2412 and the utilization and selection data of individuals with disabilities and protected veterans.
- Develop and design appropriate diversity, equity & inclusion benchmarks, scorecards and related tools to assist departments in hiring, retention and promotion.
- Aggregate, analyze, and compile information relevant to EEO/AA and other diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
- Respond to reports of discrimination and harassment, including receiving and maintaining appropriate records and documentation to investigate incidents with students, faculty and staff, including serving as a member of the Discrimination and Harassment Response Team (DHT),
This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), in accordance with the federal statutory requirements of the Jeanne Clery Act. CSAs are required to and responsible for reporting allegations of crimes they receive from students and employees to the Campus Safety Department.
Professional Experience/Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related discipline such as affirmative action/equal employment opportunity, human resources, diversity and inclusion, faculty affairs or HR information systems/analytics, or combination of preferred education and experience.
- Background in EEO/AA compliance (e.g., Exec Order 11246 data mandates), ADA, and/or diversity & inclusion areas.
- Experience working with SQL and database queries.
- The ability to handle confidential material with utmost discretion is critical.
- Must be capable of working collegially and effectively with a diverse group of colleagues to include faculty, staff and students on a daily basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in EEO/AA.
- Juris Doctor
Education
A Bachelor’s degree is required.
A Graduate degree is preferred.

The Campus Safety Department will provide upon request a copy of Colgate’s Annual Security and Fire Safety Report. This report includes statistics as reported to the United States Department of Education for the previous three years concerning reported: 1. crimes that occurred on-campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by Colgate University; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus and 2. fires that occurred in student housing facilities. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security and fire safety, such as policies concerning sexual assault, life safety systems, and other related matters.
