The Director of the Institute for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion provides departmental leadership and direction consistent with the strategic vision of both the division of Academic, Student Affairs and the College.  Cross-divisional collaboration and support are essential elements of the position.  Compensation within the posted range is determined by a candidate's education level and/or years of experience in the field.  Generally, employees are hired in the lower third of the scale.  

Master's degree required.  Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field preferred.  Five (5) years of experience in student affairs or related work with college students required, preferably at a community college. Five (5) years of experience in multicultural and diversity programming.  Experience with diversity training and/or developing diversity and anti-bias related training curricula. Experience working with students, faculty, and staff in the area of multicultural and diversity education within a global context required.  Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience required.

  1. Provide leadership and supervision for the Institute for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  2. Provide leadership and supervision of the College's Cultural Responsive Teaching and Learning Institute.  
  3. Provide leadership and supervision of the College's Institute for Social Justice.
  4. Implement actions of the President's DEI Council.
  5. Develop and implement goals and objectives in coordination with senior management.
  6. Implement strategies related to operation and services.
  7. Evaluate the effectiveness of policies and procedures to ensure consistency.
  8. Supervise, advise, and evaluate assigned staff, as required.
  9. Prepare, analyze and provide reports on diversity, equity, and inclusion-related subjects, as requested.
  10. Serve as liaison between College departments, vendors, government agencies and/or other external organizations. 
  11. Manage operating budget for assigned department or function, as required.

Student Development and Support

  1. Identify, develop, implement, assess, and evaluate programs and services that serve to promote student development with particular emphasis on social justice, intercultural competency, diversity, and inclusion.
  2. Provide strong and effective leadership for the Institute for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion including, but not limited to: (a) ensuring its mission and purpose are relevant; (b) addressing current and emerging needs of the campus community; (c) establishing and managing budgets; and (c) identifying and seeking external grant funding for programs and services.
  3. Develop and implement diversity and social justice education programs designed to create transformational education spaces that create awareness, enhance campus climate, and encourage self-agency.
  4. Provide consultation, advisement, and advocacy for all student affinity groups on campus.
  5. Responsible for coordinating the annual President's Distinguished African-American Lecture series.
  6. Identify, develop, and implement diversity and inclusion awareness training programs in collaboration with other campus programming such as admission events, CRTL, student orientation, and student leadership programs.
  7. Work closely with Student Life teams to cultivate partnerships for programming opportunities. 
  8. Supervise the Cultural Responsive Teaching and Learning (CRTL) program and Institute for Social Justice.
  9. Work collaboratively across the college to support the implementation of actions identified by the President's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council.
  10. Collaborate closely with the other three directors in the unit to assure alignment of strategic planning and resource allocation, encouraging cross-pollination among all four units. 
Institutional and College Life Leadership

  1. Serve in collaboration and partnership with the Dean of College Life, Office of Student Life, and the Institute for Innovation, Transformative Teaching, Learning, and Leadership to advance the mission of the office with regard to social justice, diversity, inclusion, and equity.
  2. Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on matters related to, but not limited to, student and campus diversity.
  3. Identify and propose strategic recommendations that support the enhancement of campus climate and divisional goals to provide a positive, inclusive and successful student experience, especially those goals with respect to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  4. Serve as a resource among all college constituencies to assist in advancing the diversity and social justice mission of the college.
  5. Promote, supervise, and sustain the Cultural Responsive Teaching and Learning (CRTL) program, Institute for Social Justice, and other programs related to diversity and social justice. 
  6. Develop and maintain working relationships with external organizations that support institutional and departmental efforts to advance diversity, inclusion, and equity. 
  7. Plan and manage budgets related to diversity initiatives; and obtain funding for programs, activities, and initiatives.
