Position Purpose

The specialist will be able to support all Film & Media and Studio Art courses that include video, sound, editing software, and/or time-based components. This includes (but is not limited to) Special Topics courses, like Art and Activism, Video Installation, Live Action Filmmaking, Art Practices across Media, Animation, Video Art, Storytelling in a Digital Age and advanced Studio Art and Film and Media Senior Seminar courses, along with short workshops within classes in courses in other areas of Studio Art and Film & Media studio courses. Provides training for students and faculty in Adobe (and other software) and develops instructional workshops and demonstrations for related digital tools and equipment in Studio Art and Film & Media courses.

Required Qualifications
  • BFA in Film & Media, Studio Art, Graphic Design, or related field.
  • At least 1 year experience working in digital technology field, and ideally in an educational setting.
  • Broad knowledge of software and hardware.
  • Excellent Macintosh experience.
  • Reliable and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Communicates complex technical information effectively with less-or non-technical users, often under pressure, while maintaining a positive and cooperative attitude.
  • General maintenance of tools in lab, both hardware + software.
  • Ability to multitask, set priorities and complete projects in a timely manner, and work independently.
  • Commitment to diversity and meeting the changing needs of both departments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Collaborate with other technicians and staff on digital and innovative components of courses.
  • Asist students in problem-solving project ideas from concept to realization.
  • Works on special projects as needed with other areas of Studio Art, and Film & Media. The technician also accommodates the departments with video/sonic support pertaining to both academics and extracurricular, department-related activities.
  • The technician should have a strong desire to stay up to date on software changes and upgrades.
  • Teach safe handling of equipment and materials; maintain area for cleanliness as well as safety.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining a digital archive/ library of student projects.

Key Accountabilities

Support faculty and students during Film & Media and Studio Art courses that include digital technology – 60%

Available to students outside of classes for digital support in the lab. Must work 1-2 evenings a week. – 30%

Research equipment and software for the departments and works the other staff members in both departments on digital technology needs. – 10%
