Drew University is seeking a Head of Instruction and Engagement in the University Library. This new 12 month, Library Faculty position will provide leadership, vision and strategic direction for Drew University Library in the development and management of 21st century public services, ensuring that the scope and caliber of library programs and services support the curriculum and mission of the University. The successful candidate will work with the Library Director and other stakeholders to plan, deliver, and assess activities designed to improve the quality and quantity of campus engagement with library materials, spaces, and services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Articulate vision and guide program development to transform ways the library partners with faculty and students in leveraging and applying learning technologies to advance their scholarship, curricular, and co-curricular needs. Participate in library outreach and programming activities, including events planning and social media postings.
  • Lead a team of reference/instruction librarians and participate as an equal partner in these activities. Create and deliver course-related and course-integrated reference and instruction in virtual, in-person, and hybrid environments. Work with the Reference and Instruction team to create instructional materials, activities, tutorials and online guides that support student learning. Evaluate and participate in assessment of these programs to measure the impact on student learning.
  • Design and perform ongoing assessment of activities and services in Public Services.
  • Maintain contact and collaborate with academic support services on supporting curricular and research projects on campus.
  • Coordinate library activities for international students, collaborating with appropriate university departments and writing programs across the curriculum to ensure the efficient provision of library services to our international student population. Provide oversight of library activities for the university's orientation program.
  • Participate in other projects and initiatives to be determined based on the strategic direction of the university and library. Employee may perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
  • Occasional weekend and evening hours may be required.
This position offers some possibility for flexible work arrangements; however, the expectation is that the successful candidate will work primarily on-site.

Required Qualifications:
  • A Master's degree in Library Science (or equivalent) from an ALA accredited library program.
  • Three years of professional experience related to reference and instruction in an academic or research library.
  • Creativity, initiative, and interest in innovative approaches to reference, instruction and public services.
  • Demonstrated understanding of cutting edge issues and trends in reference and instruction.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to foster positive working relationships and build partnerships.
  • Effective time, organizational, and project management skills with the ability to work independently and as a member of a collaborative team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work proactively and effectively with faculty.
  • Must have willingness to experiment and take risks in the profession.
Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Second advanced degree in an academic discipline, preferably in the social sciences.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership in appropriate library management positions.
  • Experience using social media to effectively engage user populations.
