Facilities Planning is seeking a Project Manager with a professional degree in architecture, engineering, construction management or a construction related field or discipline. Minimum of 7 years of experience in the building design and/or construction management of building construction projects.

PRIMARY DUTIES
  • Provide project management and oversight of building design and construction projects.
  • Responsible for planning, estimating, budgeting, scheduling, managing, reporting and project close-out on all assigned construction projects.
  • Select and recommend the appropriate professional firm to best satisfy the needs for architectural and engineering design services.
  • Select and recommend the appropriate construction management firm to best satisfy the needs for pre-construction and construction services for major capital construction projects.
  • Act as a liaison with both internal and external entities to ensure effective communication in the resolution of administrative and technical issues related to assigned projects.
  • Support other project managers, faculty and staff in facility design to meet program requirements within established budget.
  • Work with consultants, suppliers, vendors, GVSU technology, and facilities support staff to develop construction documents and implement GVSU standards.
  • Represent the interests of Grand Valley State University by maintaining parameters of good practice set forth by the design and construction industry and as legislated by governmental authorities and to convey those interests through written and verbal communications, meetings, negotiations, inspections, interpretations, approvals, and disapprovals.
  • Work with consultants to develop construction documents and specifications for issue for bids.
  • Review, approve, and process all project pay requests.
  • Provide oversight and evaluate project documents to ensure that the requirements of the contract documents have been satisfied.
  • Perform other duties as required/assigned by Facilities Planning department and university leadership.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Professional degree in architecture, engineering, construction management or a construction related field or discipline.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in design or management of building construction projects.
  • Experience in the administration of construction projects including cost estimating, budgeting, consultant management, customer interaction, contract management and project closeout.
  • Technical skills in construction, retrofitting and updating building systems, and familiarity with life safety and building codes.
  • Knowledge normally acquired through a combination of completion of education requirements and a strong history of project management and field experience in the construction industry.
  • Experience in the administration of time sensitive projects, including cost estimating, working with suppliers, consultants and contractors, customer interaction, construction management and project closeout.
  • Understanding and recognition of health, life safety, building codes, and ADA compliance
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, tasks, and commitments concurrently and effectively.
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust to new projects, teams and environments and challenges.
  • Strong commitment to customer service with good oral and written communication skills required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, BIM, Bluebeam programs
  • Experience in institutional facilities, in particular, higher education.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe

  • Field experience in the construction industry or exposures to the construction functions of Owner, Architect/Engineer and Contractor.
SALARY: $85,000-$110,000; Commensurate with experience.
