Hazard Community & Technical College invites applications for the position of Coordinator of Public Relations. The Coordinator of Public Relations will serve Hazard Community and Technical College (HCTC) communication areas including public relations, external communications, and social media while ensuring a strong presence throughout its seven-county service area to support recruitment, student success, development, and the public image of the College.
Job Duties:
Duties for this position will include, but not be limited to:
MEDIA
Manage media relations for the College by developing and maintaining a positive public image for the College.
Maintain constant contact with the President and Director of Marketing in matters relating to news media - public statements, crisis communications and public relations activities, when representing the college.
Prepare new releases and other written communications and provide appropriate responses to media inquiries.
Organize and arrange the logistics of news conferences during special announcements and special events.
Notify media during inclement weather announcements.
When called upon will serve as spokesperson for the college.
SOCIAL MEDIA
Responsible for monitoring HCTC social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc)
Responsible for developing content (writing, editing, and posting) for social media platforms to promote various areas within HCTC.
Capture compelling photos for social media content that tells the story of HCTC.
CRISIS
Conferring with President and Director of Marketing in the evaluation of potentially harmful communications and in the management of media relations during crisis situations; facilitating public safety information during an emergency or natural disaster
Serves as a key member of the College's Safety team, providing communications response during emergencies.
OTHER
This position will write and edit news releases, feature articles, special articles, speeches, postings, scripts, reports, special event activities and other communications, which describe and highlight college programs and activities including educational opportunities, accomplishments.
Coordinate photo and/or video coverage of special events and distributing photos and/or videos to appropriate publications and sources.
This position will advise, assist, and facilitate campaigns to support the College in meeting its enrollment goals and objectives through social media and public and media relations efforts.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications or related degree plus two years related experience, or equivalent.
Individual must possess excellent writing skills, excellent verbal skills, and be able to multi-task.
This position will balance a high level of writing, content creation and maintain an excellent proofing system that avoids errors and maintains accuracy, consistency, and quality of all information.
