Job Summary
The primary responsibility of a part-time Professional Academic Advisor for the Business and Computer Information Technology programs is to support students in their pursuit of credentials in business and information technology. The advisor will provide thorough academic guidance to new Gateway students, utilizing both in-person and virtual platforms.
Job Duties:
- Provide Academic Advising - Responsible for providing academic advising for new, transfer, and first-semester students. Support exploration of the student's academic and career objectives. Teach advisees how to utilize academic advising tools and access resources, as well as think critically about their educational and career goals. Identify non-academic barriers and offer appropriate internal and external referrals.
- Advisee Engagement and Documentation - Create individualized advising plans for each advisee. Responsible for recording accurate advising notes. Effective and timely communication with students in person and using provided platforms for virtual meetings, email, text, and phone.
- Communicates Effectively and Collaborates with Others - Responsible for establishing and maintaining collaborative and supportive relationships with the academic advising team, admissions, records, faculty, student success programs, and other areas of the college. Communicate efficiently both orally and written with internal and external audiences.
- Demonstrate Professional Behavior- Responsible for effective and appropriate interactions with diverse populations and for providing in-person advising on different GCTC campuses when needed. Responsible for providing a high standard of customer service when assisting students with problem resolution. Ability to seek input from an alternate authority, if necessary, use good judgment and work effectively under pressure.
Collaborates with the academic advising team to support operations and training. Partners with the assigned academic division for academic advising initiatives.
- Partners with the Business, Information Technology, and Professional Studies academic division for academic advising initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

- Must have proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Forms, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and Word).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in and understanding of working with students from diverse populations is preferred.
- Experience working at the community college level is preferred.
- Knowledge of higher education/academic advising is a plus.
