Duties and Responsibilities
Loyola University Chicago invites applications from students enrolled in library and information science graduate programs to apply for a half-time Research and Learning Services Intern position for the 2022-2023 academic year, with the possibility of extension while still enrolled in graduate studies. Each position is for approximately 20 hours per week, with schedules to be determined based on duties and availability.
Summary: Interns will teach research instruction sessions for undergraduate students in the First Year Experience program, provide research and information support at service desks, create research guides and tutorials, and contribute to other library programming. The interns will receive robust training in the provision of research support, instruction, and public services, as well as a broad introduction to professional practice in an academic library. The successful candidates will be based primarily at the Lake Shore Campus in Rogers Park with opportunities for additional experience at the Water Tower Campus in downtown Chicago. Interns will be expected to work most hours on campus.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide up to six research instruction sessions per week for first-year students, in freshman writing courses, following established lesson plans with specific learning outcomes.
- Provide research instruction for other groups and programs, including but not limited to Arrupe College, student success programs, and academic departments.
- Provide research and information services in person at public service desks, and virtually via chat and email.
- Create and maintain research guides and tutorials.
- Contribute to other library departments and projects, based on interest and experience, including but not limited to archives, collection development, assessment, technical services, access services, digital services, and library marketing.
Currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited Library and Information Science graduate program.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (including OneDrive) and Google Drive
- Knowledge of library research tools and practices
- Ability to learn new software programs
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Experience working in a library or information environment
- Coursework in library reference and instruction
- Experience teaching library instruction classes
- Bachelor's degree required
- Must be currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited Library and Information Science graduate program
