Job Summary:
Northwestern University Mesulam Center for Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer's Disease (Mesulam Center) is seeking an exceptional social worker who demonstrates a pronounced interest in working with persons with neurocognitive disorders and their families in a diversity of roles. The Social Worker will work in a collaborative setting as a team member to achieve the goals and objectives of the Mesulam Center Outreach, Recruitment and Community Engagement Core, the Miller Family Buddy Program, in addition to the provision of clinical care for persons living with dementia and their families.
Specifically, the Social Worker will provide clinical social work services for persons living with dementia and their caregiving families in the Neurobehavior and Memory Clinic of Northwestern Medical Group; contribute to the recruitment and retention of research participants that meet Center research priorities; manage and facilitate monthly support groups and quality of life programs; coordinate and deliver internal and community education programs; and participate in the coordination and planning of two annual conferences. In addition, they will contribute to ongoing research projects and participate in the writing of annual progress reports and competitive renewal for the NIA and other funding agencies.
The Mesulam Center for Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer's Disease is a multi-departmental component of the Feinberg School of Medicine. We specialize in the clinical care and scientific study of neurological diseases that interfere with cognition and behavior. Areas of emphasis include age-related memory impairments and dementias. We are focused on Alzheimer's disease, Primary Progressive Aphasia and Frontotemporal Dementia. Our three interacting missions are to investigate the causes and clinical characteristics of neurodegenerative diseases, to ensure that our patients and families are the beneficiaries of the latest research advances, and to prepare future scientists and clinicians in our field. We are looking for a Social Worker who will join in this mission.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical social work services to patients and families of the Northwestern Medicine Neurobehavior and Memory Clinic and center research participants. Complete psychosocial assessments and provide education, counseling and linkage to appropriate community services.
- Facilitate monthly caregiver support groups.
- Participate in the coordination and planning of two major annual educational events – Alzheimer Day and the PPA Conference
- Participate in the recruitment and retention of research participants.
- Master's degree in social work or related field.
- Must be a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW)
- Possess competencies in individual, family and group counseling.
- Possess knowledge of community resources for persons living with dementia – both older adults and young onset (<60 years of age) and their caregiving families.
- Possess an understanding of healthcare policies affecting persons living with dementia and their caregiving families.
- Experience working with diverse communities and demonstrated ability to be interculturally competent and culturally responsive.
- Possess superior organizational and time management skills.

- Master's degree in social work or related field with 3-5 years of clinical experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working with persons living with dementia and their families.
