Job Description:
Establishes, implements, and monitors laboratory policies and procedures. Ensures lab operations are efficient, effective, and comply with established procedures
  • Provides technical lab support by performing complex laboratory, and research-related tasks, which support faculty and graduate students with research projects.
  • Applies expert technical knowledge of equipment construction and troubleshooting.
  • Fabrication and machining, and other complex laboratory and/or other research methods and equipment functions.
  • Performs a variety of tests requiring a high degree of proficiency.
  • Troubleshoots problems and recommends solutions.
  • Evaluates experiment results using statistical analysis.
  • May instruct a laboratory academic section in research techniques, instruments, methods, and procedures.
  • Makes statistical calculations, analyzes data, prepares reports summarizing results, and conducts literature reviews to obtain abstracts and information to be utilized in research.
  • Monitors and maintains specialized lab equipment (e.g., shared microscopes, etc), laboratory supplies, and materials. Monitors, breeds and feeds C. elegans in the laboratory stocks. Demonstrated independence with C. elegans and spaceflight samples required.
  • Trains and helps supervise undergraduate research assistants.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of lab and research support typically obtained through an Associate's degree in a science or technical field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of laboratory and/or research support experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is acceptable.
  • Specific knowledge, certifications, and licensure will apply at the position level.
  • Must hold passport from a country not on the NASA list of designated countries to enable badging onto NASA worksites.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Biology or other health related scientific discipline or equivalent level of research experience preferred
  • Demonstrated independence with C. elegans and spaceflight samples

Pay Rate

The starting salary range is $16.84 per hour up to $21.48 per hour, dependent on education and prior experience. Offers beyond that will be commensurate with the candidate's education and experience in relation to the minimum qualifications for the position while taking departmental equity into account.
