Assistant Teaching Professor of Organization Development and Change (MPS Program)
As outlined in the strategic plan guiding the College's ongoing efforts, we are committed to transforming educational systems as a part of our endeavor to create a more equitable and just education system for the people of Pennsylvania, the nation, and the world. Current departmental faculty are in the midst of building and strengthening community, rethinking and revitalizing existing curriculum, and engaging in exciting research efforts to facilitate these and other processes moving us toward the goals of the strategic plan. We seek colleagues whose research, teaching and service commitments are poised to contribute to educate for change as evidenced by their professional portfolios.
The Department of Learning and Performance Systems in Penn State's College of Education is seeking a highly qualified and agile Assistant Teaching Professor who will work on the online Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Organization Development and Change graduate program for a full-time 36-week, non-tenure line appointment beginning August 2022. This is a limited- term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of renewal. Penn State's non-tenure track faculty are eligible for advancement in rank after suitable demonstration of teaching effectiveness, versatility, service commitments, and successful annual reviews. The MPS in Organization Development and Change (ODC) program is committed to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEI&B) and operates by upholding Organization Development (OD) values that are highly grounded in humanism and democracy for teaching, practice, and communications. The long-range goal of the program is to educate future ODC practitioners to be DEI&B in mind and versatile in using technology to build collaborative and virtual, cross-cultural decision-making environments.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will teach in the online MPS in Organization Development and Change (ODC) program with responsibility for teaching core courses and newly developed courses, such as Facilitating ODC through Technology. The successful candidate will also be expected to recruit, train, and supervise graduate students in ODC; to work in partnership with the existing Director of the online Master of Professional Studies in ODC; to lead workshop and consulting efforts in ODC; to develop and teach graduate courses relevant to ODC; and to engage in leadership and service to professional organizations and societies, educational institutions, agencies, and the University. Successful applicants will advise graduate degree students who are emphasizing ODC in their studies and nurture a community of practice through the WFED/OD&C Professional Development Network. Many of our students are employed in business, government, or other settings. Successful applicants will be willing to: (1) facilitate and coordinate the professional development of adjunct and fixed term faculty who teach graduate classes in ODC; (2) facilitate and coordinate virtual and/or residential conferences in ODC to position the program as a focal point for organizations interested in studying change and to leverage technology to guide/improve group decision-making—and particularly in cross-cultural settings; (3) facilitate and coordinate actions to engage graduate students in efforts that transcend classroom and online environments to help them build their qualifications to achieve their career goals; and (4) facilitate and coordinate actions to engage alumni of Workforce Education and Development, and particularly those whose graduate studies emphasized ODC, to help them remain associated with the program. Candidates should have a program of research that will lead to publications as well as a commitment to excellence in teaching and advising.
Required qualifications (commensurate with experience):
- Earned doctorate in Organization Development, Change Management, Human Resource Development, Workforce Education and Development or related fields; Candidates finishing their doctorates by August 1, 2022 will be considered as well.
- At least 5 years of work experience including a managerial or leadership level is required.
- Evidence of a strong fundamental understanding of Organization Development (OD).
- Evidence of teaching ability of at least three specialized topics addressed in the MPS in ODC program.
- Documented evidence of professional development efforts made to enhance knowledge and skills about ODC.
- Evidence of a commitment to developing a program of consulting related to ODC involving top management.
- Evidence of proficiency in applying technology to OD consulting and instruction.
- Evidence of program development and management experiences
- Evidence of philosophical alignment with OD values (i.e., awareness of self and system, integrity, courageous leadership, continuous learning and innovation, diversity, collaborative engagement, trust and respect, client growth and development, and strategic practicality; see https://www.odgathering.com/).
- Evidence of a strong, demonstrated interest in student activities and development.
- Evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching and advising, including a willingness to teach in online environments and integrate innovative technology into university courses; and
- Evidence of a commitment to working collegially and with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Desirable qualifications:
WFED faculty have broad interests, but they all share interest in using research to improve and inform human systems such as education and the world of work. Our program seeks applicants who is an advocate of DEI&B initiatives demonstrated through publications and practical activities. In addition, applicants who have a proficiency in using quantitative research through data analytics and machine learning would be preferred.
