Job Summary:
Dayton Memorial Library at Regis University is looking to hire a current graduate library science student or recent graduate w/ an MLIS to serve as a Research & Instruction Librarian intern. This is a part-time (20 hr/wk) temporary, six-month, paid position in the library's Research & Instruction department with an emphasis on the delivery of research help services in multiple modalities (chat, email, phone, and in-person) and library/information literacy instruction. The intern will help staff the research help service point assisting undergraduate and graduate students from Regis and other member institutions of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU). The intern will also have opportunities to create, update, and manage instructional materials used by the department and assist as needed with online and classroom-based library instruction across the three colleges of the university. Working with the Research & Instruction department's Intern Coordinator, additional duties and responsibilities that speak to the professional and scholarly interests of the intern may be identified and incorporated in to the position, with opportunities for cross training in other library departments a possibility.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:


Provide on-site and remote research and informational services to library users by effectively utilizing print and online resources. Services are offered in-person and using e-mail, online chat, web conferencing, and telephone. (65%)

Assist with department projects and research. (20%)

Provide occasional library orientations or library instruction as needed. (10%).

Assist with collection development in selected areas. (5%)

  • Student in an ALA-accredited library/information science program.

    Experience & Knowledge:
  • Basic knowledge of searching common online library resources
  • Growing knowledge of print and online reference sources in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences and others commonly found in academic libraries and/or related coursework. Ability to learn new resources utilized in this library location.
  • Knowledge of the Library of Congress classification
  • Excellent communication skills, marked by both active listening and clear verbal responses (oral and written).
  • Competent computer skills as they relate to reference librarianship, including the ability to search an online catalog or library database; the ability to use Microsoft Office and web browsers at a minimum.
  • Ability and desire to work with a diverse clientele and staff.
  • Ability to work independently during hours when there may not be another professional librarian on duty.
  • A commitment to quality customer service. Basic knowledge of the functions of hardware such as network printers.

    This position is benefits-eligible for workers' compensation and will receive 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.
