Salisbury University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Academic Program Specialist in the Modern Languages and Interdisciplinary Studies Departments.
Primary Job Duties: Coordinates the daily operations of two departments: Modern Languages (MDFL) and Interdisciplinary Studies (IDIS). Assist in the development and support of programs and initiatives. Assists with marketing materials, student recruitment, student course and program placement, budget, program assessment, and department data and reports. Provides administrative support for faculty and students in the MDFL and IDIS academic programs, while assisting the department chair in managing administration of the department, including scheduling, budgeting, contracts, advising and co-curricular programming. Specializes in supporting student engagement programs like The Washington Center, Podium Global Technology Experience, and other related programs, with attention to requirements and processes. Assists in Latinx recruitment and retention, and modern language placement exams. In addition, serves as the liaison to and communicates with other university offices, departments, students, community organizations, and other agencies.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a liberal arts discipline or related field with a minimum of one year experience in administrative staff work, or Associate’s degree in a related field and three years administrative staff work. Demonstrated computer skills with competency in PeopleSoft and Microsoft Office. Additional experience working in different database environments (example: CAPE) is essential.
Must be detail-oriented and have excellent interpersonal, customer service, organization and planning, prioritization, problem-solving, follow-through, time management, creative and analytical thinking, and oral and written communication skills. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with tact and discretion; flexibly and successfully handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously; work well under pressure; and work independently or in a team-oriented environment. Knowledge and skill in the use of word processing, database, and spreadsheet software to produce documents and maintain information, including online course schedules, budgets, and assessment documents. Skill in performing basic mathematical computations. Ability to present statistical material in table, chart, or graph form; ability to learn and adapt to new software and technology. Ability to operate computers and other office equipment Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to train, supervise, and evaluate student workers. Ability to work with multiple stakeholders on-campus (faculty, staff, students, international education, bursar, registrar, general counsel, academic advising, etc.) and off-campus (The Washington Center, Podium Global Technology Experience, Global Experiences, Festival Latino, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in an academic setting preferred. Administrative experience in program coordination in directly related fields. Knowledge of diverse cultures and people, with preference for knowledge in more than one language. Preferred experience with educational high impact practices, such as internship, study abroad/away, or student scholarship.
The position is a full-time, non-exempt State position with full benefits. Starting pay will be $18.81 per hour which is approximately $39,232.00 annually with a 2.5% increase after a satisfactory six-month probationary period.
