Impacting every SU student and employee on a daily basis, the Administration and Finance Division covers areas including Architectural and Engineering Services, Capital Projects, the Budget Office, Campus Sustainability, Environmental Safety, Financial Services, Human Resources, Information Technology, Physical Plant, Procurement, and University Police. Reporting directly to the University President as part of the President’s Cabinet, the Vice President of Administration and Finance plays a major role in making the decisions that guide the University and provide the best opportunities for its students and other stakeholders.
The successful candidate will provide vision, executive leadership and management/oversight of assigned areas while advancing SU’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. The Vice President of Administration and Finance also leads the development and implementation of campus-wide strategies, and plans for financial management and physical development while representing the interests of SU in the local community, in the University System of Maryland and throughout the state. The person in this position oversees a staff of approximately 400 regular (state budgeted permanent positions) and contingent (contractually hired temporary positions) employees, serving as a liaison to the Staff Senate, with an estimated annual departmental budget of $43.5 million
Professional Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be a passionate, accomplished and committed leader who can continue and advance the Administration and Finance Division’s commitment to excellence in all assigned areas. QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE: A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in accounting, finance or business; master’s degree in accounting, finance or business is preferred. A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible, substantial and successful experience in budget administration or a related field. A demonstrated record of complex problem solving and decision making. Demonstrated knowledge of budget and management issues, including trends in higher education. Demonstrated experience in assessing and creating new operating procedures and techniques. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Strong leadership skills and ability to work both independently and as a member of a larger team. The ability to build and develop relationships with on- and off-campus constituencies. The ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Experience working at institutions of higher education is preferred. CPA and/or CIA license is preferred. Must be detail-oriented. Excellent skills in: Interpersonal relations; Customer service; Organization and planning; Prioritization; Problem solving; Follow-through; Time management; Oral and written communication. Must be willing to work flexible hours. Ability to successfully handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously; Ability work well under pressure, independently and in a team-oriented environment.
