Primary Responsibilities:
- Collaborate in the development and teaching of innovative interdisciplinary courses in music technology and/or audio technology designed to prepare students for new and emerging music and performance industry opportunities
- Coordinate and teach theory and aural skills (popular/commercial and/or jazz traditions, tonal, and post-tonal)
- Teach instrumentation and arranging in popular music and traditional styes, including songwriting
- Advise students and provide service to the department, college and university
- Serve on committees as assigned
- Recruit and retain students interested in music technology and/or audio production technology
Required Qualifications
- A terminal degree in one of the following: Music Technology, Sound Design, Audio Production, Music Theory/Composition, or closely related area. (Degree must be from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited/government-certified university.)
- Demonstrated ability to create and record music using Digital Audio Workstations such Logic, Protools, Ableton, or other discipline appropriate software.
- Demonstrated ability to teach commercial music theory, including jazz harmony and popular songwriting
- Demonstrated ability to work with computer music notation and apply standard engraving practices to scores
- Demonstrated ability to teach all aspects of a music theory curriculum, tonal through post-tonal music, including orchestration and arranging.
- Demonstrated experience incorporating appropriate technologies (1:1 devices, audio, audio-visual, web-based) in courses
- Demonstrated evidence of, or potential for, creating peer-reviewed creative activity or research
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to participation in professional organizations and mentoring students through such organizations
- Demonstrated commitment to collegiality when interacting with others within the University community
