Job Description:
THE OPPORTUNITY
SUNY Empire State seeks a collaborative, compassionate, innovative leader to help elevate the institution to the next level. The provost and executive vice president for academic affairs plays a key role in advancing the institution's commitment to high-quality, accessible education in the state, the region, and the world.
As the chief academic officer, the provost serves as the champion of SUNY Empire's unique academic mission and of the faculty and staff who deliver on that mission. Created as the innovative arm of the State University of New York, SUNY Empire has served students from diverse backgrounds since its founding in 1971.
SUNY Empire has a proud history of meeting students where they are in their life journeys and helping them reach their educational goals. Student success is our North Star, and we are proud that prior learning assessment, mentoring, and high-quality online teaching and learning are among the hallmarks of the institution's distinctiveness.
Unlike many other colleges and universities nationwide, SUNY Empire was relatively well prepared for the pandemic in 2020. Now, like many institutions, we face the urgent and important task of ensuring that SUNY Empire solidifies its market position. As other institutions seek to serve adult learners and pivot to a larger online portfolio, SUNY Empire is uniquely positioned to build on its strengths in adult education and online teaching and learning.
The provost will join the institution at an exciting and challenging time. President Lisa Vollendorf began her tenure on July 1, 2022, and is assembling a team of leaders committed to building on SUNY Empire's strengths and serving all students with integrity. As SUNY Empire embarks upon strategic planning in 2022-23, the institution is developing a focused, inclusive approach to growing enrollments, improving retention, diversifying faculty and staff, and creating responsive academic and student support programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The provost and executive vice president for academic affairs is charged with supporting student, faculty, and staff success, including:
