Job Purpose

Under the supervision of the Chief Diversity Officer, the DEI Coordinator is responsible for a range of administrative coordination and programmatic facilitation responsibilities on a day-to-day basis. The Coordinator will consult with the Chief Diversity Officer in the development, planning, promotion, implementation and evaluation of DEI training, workshops, and other programming. Under supervision, the Coordinator will assist the office in developing diversity, equity and inclusion related programs, creating and maintaining DEI education content and materials and maintaining the DEI website and social media sites. This position will also work in close collaboration with other University staff to coordinate DEI activities. The individual in this position must be a self-starter who can successfully handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for a range of administrative coordination and programmatic facilitation responsibilities on a day-to-day basis.
  • Manage the departmental budget.
  • Provides program coordination and assists in providing training and coaching for diversity education programming. This includes program and content development, research, logistics, communications, scheduling, event organization, participant tracking, budgeting, and assessment-related program data management and analysis.
  • Works in a collaborative manner with others across the University to coordinate DEI efforts across campus.
  • Develop and implement programs that focus on recruiting individuals from underrepresented groups as candidates for admission and/or for student and faculty employment opportunities at Tennessee Tech.
  • Maintains and updates the DEI website and social media sites.
  • Assists the Chief Diversity Officer in the development of appropriate publications, social media communications and advertising to enhance the visibility of the Office of DEI and its programming efforts.
  • Supports special projects and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education. Two (2) years' experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities of the position. Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher), web-based systems and internet. Demonstrated ability to prioritize duties, define deadlines and problem-solve and effectively organize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to multi-task effectively in a varied, high-volume environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills with proven ability to effectively communicate with all levels of stakeholders. Experience performing with a high level of diplomacy, confidentiality and trust while projecting a professional and positive image. Working knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion philosophies, methodologies, competencies and programs.

Preferred Qualifications

Excellent analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills. Experience creating training/workshop plans and materials for departments, and coordinating programs, events and other activities. Experience writing successful grant proposals.

Work Hours

Typical hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Additional hours if/when needed.

Salary

Commensurate with education and experience.
