Job Summary:
The Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion is responsible for managing a team to support the Anne Burnett Marion School of Medicine at Texas Christian University's diversity and inclusion goals. This position will work closely with Burnett School of Medicine at TCU leaders in admissions and outreach, educational affairs and accreditation, faculty affairs and development, student affairs, and other administrative units critical to supporting the institutional mission and goals that advance a culture that embraces and promotes diversity and inclusion. In addition, the Associate Dean will be an integral member of the leadership team in the Dean's Office and will collaborate with peers in leadership positions. This position will design and implement pipeline programs locally and nationally and will represent the school and institution as a national leader in diversity and inclusion, addressing inequities in health care and workforce.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
1. Provides vision, leadership, management, and strategic planning for diversity and inclusion initiatives across the Burnett School of Medicine.
2. Aligns objectives and strategic plans with the mission of the Burnett School of Medicine and the University.
3. Serves as an advisor with senior leadership regarding an evidence-based approach to policy-making and best practices.
4. Drafts the LCME accreditation standards and supporting documents to demonstrate a culture of inclusion and equity.
5. Reviews and assesses all current relevant data on diversity and inclusion for the Burnett School of Medicine to create a dashboard of relevant indicators and to stay current on promising practices from across the University as well as at peer institutions nationally.
6. Develops diversity communications and education plans and programs, leading these efforts directly as well as engaging outside expertise.
7. Develops and implements diversity and inclusion programs including, but not limited to workshops, presentations, learning modules to promote and strengthen an inclusive environment within the School of Medicine community.
8. Collaborates with appropriate offices (e.g., Admissions and Outreach, Faculty Affairs and Development) to develop recruitment and retention programs for faculty, staff, and students.
9. Measures and assesses effectiveness of diversity and inclusion initiatives.
10. Provides coaching and consultation to faculty, staff, and students regarding broadly defined diversity-related conflicts and disputes.
11. Serves as a resource to faculty for the development and delivery of cultural competency content throughout the medical education program.
12. Address Burnett School of Medicine student well-being and professional growth and grit relevant to matters of discrimination and strategies to address microaggressions, etc.
13. Assists in designing and delivering relevant curriculum in all academic years for the SOM and the Institutions teaching as needed
14. Designs and implements pathway programs from K-12 to community colleges and four year universities, including HBCUs to expose students to health care professions, STEM in general, and help recruit students to the Burnett School of Medicine.
15. Consults and assists Burnett School of Medicine affiliates in advising, recruiting, and developing workforce in the spectrum of diversity and inclusion.
16. Represents the Burnett School of Medicine and TCU in the Fort Worth and North Texas communities, addressing the breadth of issues pertaining to diversity and inclusion.
17. Strives to lead the Burnett School of Medicine to become a national exemplar regarding diversity of student recruitment, retention, and training, including robust pipeline programs to support these outcomes.
18. Seeks appropriate extramural funding opportunities and engage in scholarly activities.
19. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
• Doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, JD, MD).
• 5 plus years' experience developing effective diversity and inclusion initiatives for faculty, students, and/or staff.
Preferred Education & Experience:
• Experience in recruitment and retention programs and initiatives to attract qualified and diverse student, faculty, and senior administrative staff.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Knowledge of and experience in building and advancing institutional diversity and inclusion initiatives for faculty, staff and students.
• Knowledge of programming to attract qualified diverse students, staff and senior leadership with particular demonstrated success in faculty programming.
• Skill and experience using database tools, development of ad hoc reports and data extraction as well as demonstrated familiarity with statistical software.
• Skill in handling issues in a complex organizational setting such as education, healthcare, public sector or corporate environment.
• Skill in conflict resolution and adept at finding win-win solutions to difficulty problems.
• Ability to manage change while building and supporting initiatives that promote diversity, equity, access and inclusion.
• Ability to collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders, and provide leadership to a vibrant environment that is also in the midst of enormous fluidity.
• Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to identify and implement innovative approaches to engage diverse faculty.
• Ability to assess the educational impact of diversity and assessing campus climate.
• The individual will have demonstrated leadership in advancing diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives with a focus on health care and educational environments.
