Job Summary:
The Equipment and Vehicle Technician is responsible for maintaining motorized equipment and vehicles by diagnosing and repairing problems.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
1. Repairs equipment and vehicles by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, hand and power tools; examining form and texture or parts; replacing or adjusting functional parts of devices and control instruments; using shop instrumentation and equipment.
2. Maintains operation of equipment and vehicles by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, hydraulic and control systems; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, troubleshooting malfunctions.
3. Locates source of problems by discussing problems with operators; observing devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
4. Maintains supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
5. Complies with federal, state and local safety codes by adhering to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
6. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
7. Ensures operation of tools and equipment used in the job by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
8. Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and continuing needs.
9. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent in experience.
• 3 years in performing repair and maintenance for small to medium engines.
Preferred Education & Experience:
• None
Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
• Valid Texas Driver's License.
• Must be insurable under the university motor vehicle requirements.
• Satisfactory results from a post-offer physical examination.
Preferred Licensure, Certification, and/or Specialized Training:
• None
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Knowledge of repair and maintenance of small to medium engines and equipment.
• Knowledge of customer service techniques.
• Ability to communicate technical information verbally and in writing.

Work Environment:
• Work is indoors/outdoors and not sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• May be exposed to common automotive fluids/materials while draining and replacing fluids, brake service, fuel systems, etc.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
• This role is an on campus, in-person position
