Job Summary:
This position is responsible for officiating and assisting in the administration of all events of the Competitive Sports Program. Individuals holding this position must be able to solve on-the-job issues by utilizing effective critical thinking and decision-making skills. This person will enforce all program and building policies and be able to communicate to a diverse group of patrons. The Intramural Sports Official is responsible for the effective in game operations on the field or court to which they are assigned.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
1. Officiates various intramural sports and events.
2. Controls each game by utilizing sport specific rules and knowledge to ensure proper administration of the rules and policies.
3. Responsible for the set-up and tear down of the Intramural Sports events.
5. Acts in a professional manner by upholding Campus Recreation & Wellness Promotion policy when involved in conflict management with patrons, students and staff. Dresses consistent with Campus Recreation & Wellness Promotion standards.
6. Acts as the first contact in the resolution of protests and conflicts that may arise during game play.
7. Ensures sportsmanlike conduct and provide written reports on all incidents and ejections witnessed.
8. Ensures playing area is always safe for competition.
9. Ensures participants and spectators are safe, in their designated areas, and acting appropriately.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Knowledge of rules in various sports
• Knowledge of standard practices in recreational sports
• Knowledge of intramural sports policies and rules
• Knowledge of basic customer service techniques
• Knowledge of Campus Recreation programs and activities.
• Skill in effective written and verbal communications.
• Ability to be punctual, dependable, and trustworthy.
• Ability to make sound judgments.
• Ability to maintain composure and handle confrontation in high intensity situations.
• Ability to continuously move and be on your feet for majority of shifts

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment:
• Work is indoor/outdoor and non-sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• This role is an on-campus, in-person position.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
