Media Specialist, Instructional Staff

The College of Arts and Letters (CAL) at The University of Tampa invites applicants for the position of Media Specialist Instructional Staff. This position supports faculty, staff, and students providing training and support in CAL-centric production spaces and classrooms. This position will teach 8 credit hours per academic year in the Department of Communication, as well as support advising efforts in that department. This is a 12-month position and will reside in the Department of Communication, but it also will support other CAL departments and will report to the Dean, and Technology Manager. The ideal candidate would be available to start in August 2023.

Essential Duties

  • Work with existing Instructional Staff and Faculty to support events in CAL studios, theaters, and galleries
  • Work with existing Instructional Staff and Faculty to support AV-related computing technology in CAL labs, studios, theaters, and galleries
  • Work with the Music Technology Coordinator and Media Production Coordinator to support and staff events in the Gordon Theater
  • Liaise with ITS to plan, install, and troubleshoot Media Services installations and upgrades in CAL-centered labs and classrooms
  • Prepare training materials, and hold training sessions, to instruct CAL faculty and staff in the use of classroom technology in CAL-centered labs, classrooms, and studios
  • Coordinate advising efforts and advise undergraduates in the Communication Department
  • Teach 8 credit hours (two courses) per academic year in a department related to the candidate’s experience and qualifications
  • Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds

Qualifications

  • MA, MFA, or Ph.D. in a field related to the position
  • Familiarity with the fundamental principles and technologies of producing audio and video media
  • Experience in teaching and/or producing audio and video media in studio-based production spaces
  • Knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn software programs used by The University of Tampa, such as Workday, Microsoft Office, and the Adobe Creative Cloud suite
  • Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practice
