JOB SUMMARY
The Office of Budget, Planning, and Institutional Research (BPIR) invites applicants for a Financial Analyst 1. Reporting to the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, this position is responsible for supporting a variety of complex financial analyses, assisting assigned unit budgets, and providing ad hoc internal and external reporting support.
The successful candidate will support various departments with outstanding organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. The person in this position will work in a collaborative, dynamic team environment in the Office of Budget, Planning, and Institutional Research.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include but are not limited to the following:
1. Perform financial modeling and forecasting
This is a full-time, twelve-month position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position will be based in Storrs, CT and there is an expectation of some workdays per week on campus. Individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process and are subject to approval and authorization upon hire. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).

1. Perform financial modeling and forecasting
- Work collaboratively to understand business requirements and conceptualize, develop, and execute financial models supporting strategic programs and initiatives.
- Aggregate information from various sources to analyze financial plans and forecasts for the operating and capital budgets.
- Summarize findings regarding financial plans, operating and capital forecasts, and similar complex financial matters.
- Research and analyze capital project expenditures and report on trends; capture and track the operating budget impact of capital projects.
- Anticipate, identify, and raise potential financial opportunities, issues, risks, ideas, and solutions.
- Keep abreast of developments and trends, which may require new studies or modification of current projects or practices.
- Establish procedures and meet critical deadlines for collecting and updating required information to complete projects promptly and accurately.
- Provide guidance and oversight of assigned departmental financial management activities.
- Ensure that financial managers have access to financial information that is accurate, complete, consistent, relevant, timely, and understandable.
- Assist in preparing documents, providing analysis, and executing the annual budget process.
- Answer inquiries concerning revisions to existing or new financial/budget developments and recommend modifications as necessary.
- Assist financial managers and decision-makers in planning and evaluation; identify opportunities for reducing costs and improving performance.
- Organizes information from various sources for use in analyzing plans and forecasts.
- Extracts, consolidates, and maintains data from multiple sources.
- Serves as a resource to fiscal staff and others regarding routine policies and procedures.
- Submits, reviews, and approves financial transactions.
- Bachelor's degree in business, economics, accounting, mathematics, or a related area.
- Four years of related experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex materials to various constituencies across the University.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with sensitive information professionally.
- Excellent analytical and quantitative skills.
- Ability to work independently, exercising sound judgment in resolving issues.
- Master's degree in business, economics, accounting, or a related area.
- Experience working in a higher education setting or in a financial role.
- Advanced skills using Excel, Access, or enterprise systems such as KFS, WebFocus, etc.
- Ability to engage, connect, and work with diverse populations and provide a commitment to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in an educational setting.
