JOB SUMMARY
The Chemistry Department, in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, is seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Research Associate with a background in automation and/or programming. The incumbent will aid in the development of automated flow chemistry platforms, develop software for remote, autonomous synthesis and analytics, and network several platforms to create a cloud synthesis lab. The project will be carried out at the University of Connecticut under Dr. Kerry Gilmore's supervision.
The candidate will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities and gain in-depth knowledge of the research frontiers in the fields of autonomous discovery and synthesis. They will also have the opportunity to be a part of a world-class scientific team and involved in vigorous research programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Start date for this position is August 2022 and the initial appointment will be for one year and is potentially renewable for a second year depending on regular progress evaluation. Continuation beyond two years is contingent upon future external funding applications and performance. The position is full-time (40 hours/week) with an annual salary of $60,000.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Developing graphical user interfaces, software architectures, writing drivers for hardware, queuing protocols, integration of bespoke programming, etc.
- Integration of machine learning algorithms for single-step and process optimization, reaction and condition prediction, and active learning platforms.
- Participate in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.
- Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and upgrading, and ordering supplies as needed.
- Mentor/train graduate and undergraduate students.
- Ph.D. or equivalent, with a background in theoretical chemistry, chemical engineering, organic chemistry, and/or data sciences.
- Experience coding with LabVIEW, Python, and/or equivalent software.
- Background in coding and software development towards the development of autonomous hardware platforms.
- Experience as – or working with – experimentalists.
- Experience with flow chemistry.
- Experience with manuscript writing.
- Experience with mentoring.
