CONTEXT OF THE JOB:
The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the University of Delaware is nationally recognized for its exceptional educational experiences and for integrating instruction, research, and public engagement. With 24 academic departments in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, more than 25 centers, programs, and institutes, and featuring outstanding research and teaching facilities, CAS serves over 7,500 students, is supported by approximately 400 staff, and maintains annual operating expenditures of over $121M. The College's 600 faculty members emphasize the enduring value of an arts and sciences education and a deep commitment to excellence in scholarship and all forms of creative and intellectual expression, with sponsored research expenditures totaling more than $38.6M per fiscal year.
The Communications Team within the College of Arts and Sciences provides communications and marketing support and services for all departments, programs, and centers across the College. Under the direction of the Director, Communications, the Communications Specialist I performs a variety of communications duties to ensure the success and efficiency of CAS Communications, and in support of the CAS mission and strategic direction.

Under the direction of the Director, Communications, the Communications Specialist I performs a variety of communications duties to ensure the success and efficiency of CAS Communications, and in support of the CAS mission and strategic direction.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the Communications Team in the general flow of all work requests for the CAS Communications Team, including managing the TDX system, ProofHub, and other communications and creative work management tools.
- Assists the Director, Communications with compilation and reporting on project request data. Works with members of the Communications Team to develop content for a variety of print and digital marketing and communications outlets, including websites, UDaily, Blue Hen Family Hub, social media platforms, other CAS and UD communications tools, and print publications-targeting both internal and external audiences.
- Monitors and traffics the Communications Team email inbox; maintains CAS email mailing lists for external communications; and maintains other organizational tools for the team.
- Works with the Director, Communications on managing the COMMversation group and other team outreach to CAS units.
- Manages the day-to-day activities of the CAS Communications' internship program.
- Provides communications support for college events-internal and external-including Dean's events, admissions events, graduation/convocation, and other UD-wide efforts.
- Provides on-campus communications support for the Enrollment Management Team and unit's enrollment efforts.
- Manages CAS Comms MailChimp account.
- Stays current with University branding standards and marketing policies and serves as a resource for faculty.
- Provides communications support as needed, including branding of video and presentation, internal projects, support for social media, marketing, Dean's communications, and special projects.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, public relations, communications, or a related discipline and three years of job-related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of public relations and communications tactics, including internal and external communications, presentation skills, events, and marketing communications.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of copyediting and proofreading, and familiarity with editorial style.
- Effective organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to operate independently and to use sound judgment, initiative, and discretion in all interactions with constituents.
- Knowledge of creative and project management principles.
- Ability to communicate effectively and interact well with a wide range of professional colleagues.
- Proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Office, and other electronic communication (newsletter, email marketing, and social media).
- Experience and interest in creative use of social media and web content management systems preferred.
- Experience and interest in video production and branding preferred.
- Knowledge of University academic programs, policies, and procedures desirable.
- Demonstrates an understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures and backgrounds.
