Job Summary
The University of Kentucky Athletics Communications and Public Relations Office is seeking a CPR Assistant Intern. This position will be a 12-month appointment working with a variation of the following sports: track and field, cross country and women's basketball with the option for renewal for the 2023-2024 year at the discretion of the Athletics Communications and Public Relations Office. Specific duties include but are not limited to: writing, editing and designing press releases for UK athletic contests, special events, teams coaches and student athletes; responsible for production of media guides and media materials; assist in the overall communication and maintenance of athletics website (www.ukathletics.com); assist and significantly contribute to the department's social media communication efforts; assist in game day operations working with event management in producing successful events; creatively come up with story feature ideas to promote UK student-athletes and coaches in media; manage press operations at home athletic events and arrange interviews between media, coaches and student-athletes; attendance of all open practices for assigned sports; familiarity with online publishing and online publishing software; assist in mentoring and supervising student media workers with assigned projects and other duties as assigned.
This position will require the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Applications must have a Bachelor's degree, and 1-2 years of experience in media relations or in a sports information setting is preferred. Applicants should have a strong knowledge of sports. Excellent journalistic writing ability, with knowledge of Associated Press style guidelines, is necessary. Candidates must possess strong oral and communication skills. Experience in Statcrew/Genius programs, InDesign, Sidearm and/or PhotoShop software, plus web management is preferred. Flexibility to travel and willingness to work weekends and evenings. Must comply with NCAA, SEC and University rules, regulations and policies. The position reports to the Associate Director of Communications and Public Relations.
