MU TITLE:Educational Program Coordinator II

LOCATION:Hillcrest Community Center, Columbia, MO

MU Extension's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (Osher@Mizzou) is a continuing education program that offers non-credit courses designed to complement the lifestyles, interests, and concerns of the 50+ adult. The Institute's mission is to provide courses that embrace the curious mind of adults in retirement. For more information about Osher@Mizzou, visitosher.missouri.edu.

This position is essential to the mission of Osher with a focus on program development and educational delivery and quality. Osher classes are in session 24 weeks of the year, over four semesters. The program went online in 2020 and now offers a full array of in-person, online and hybrid courses. This coordinator position focuses on program delivery, course development and design, membership support and instructor/volunteer relations. The ability to solve problems and conflicts in a variety of situations is critical to the success of the program, impacting participants/customers, department, and staff.

Responsibilities Include:

Work with instructors/presenters on course planning and design, with emphasis on member engagement and high-quality programming; help to identify and recruit new instructors; work to retain current instructors. Assist online and hybrid instructors in best practices.

Coordinate the implementation and delivery of semester courses, with an eye toward high-quality programming. Assess and adjust course design, when needed. Provide instructor assistance and quality control both in the classroom and in virtual classes. Set up of classrooms and monitoring of AV equipment, with assistance from volunteers and student workers.

Assist with communication/outreach with the Osher membership, including emails, e-newsletters, website updates and social media outreach. Assist Osher leadership with semester registration process; coordinate member support of registration process; collect and collate enrollment data; distribute and collate program evaluation data.

Greet/assist participants and their guests; oversee office volunteers; answer main phone lines; monitor department email account. First point of contact/representative of the program of which resides at an off-campus location. Assist with extracurricular and social events for members throughout the academic year.

This position requires attention to detail and an affinity for technology; the candidate must be people-oriented, have strong customer service and skills and handle private information with discretion.

Hours are varied depending on programmatic needs but occur primarily M-F, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional evenings and weekends.

Conduct all activities in accordance with the Civil Rights Acts, Title IX, Rehabilitation, Americans with Disabilities Act and local, state and region affirmative action plans.

As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities may be expected to support the mission and purpose of MU Extension.

Administrative supervision is received from the Educational Director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Position may supervise student assistants.

Shift

Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Ability to work some flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, is required to fulfill assigned responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, Teams), Google workspace and Zoom applications.
  • Ability to work independently, have self-initiative, and be able to work with a variety of personalities.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to carry or maneuver tables and chairs safely.
  • Occasionally will be required to sit; stand, and kneel, or crouch.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $23.00 - $25.57 hourly

Grade: GGS-008
