Job Description
The Community Health Study Coordinator/Specialist will work both independently and in conjunction with the Principal Investigator (PI) and the Project Director (PD) to ensure that all phases of the established research project and deliverables are within the projected timeline and successful. As an integral member of the Berkley-Patton research group, the specialist will regularly communicate progress and challenges with team members and collaborate to resolve concerns. Some evening and weekend work is required and may include some limited travel as our contact with our community and health organization partners and their participants is within their meeting time assemblies.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Scheduling and coordinating sessions with all community and health organization partners and participants ensuring data collection maintains the project schedule
- Facilitate study participant recruitment, enrollment, scheduling and retention
- Facilitate focus groups of the project and provide technical assistance and information for their participation and success
- Maintain ongoing communication with partners and participants at specific intervals to meet project objectives and retain community collaborative engagement
- Accurately collect data, analyze and code/transcript into system used by the PI and PD for study and incorporation into manuscripts, journals, presentations, etc.
- Conduct study training sessions and lead lifestyle educational sessions with community partners and study participants
- Prepare materials for community meetings and research team meetings and assist with study websites
- A Bachelor's degree or a combination of education and experience in healthcare initiatives, healthcare industry, health data collection
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
- Calm demeanor and patience to work with faith-based and community-based populations, including senior citizens and underserved communities, to obtain research data and explain objectives and support participants through the project
- Willingness to learn new databases and research systems as needed
Full-Time, benefit eligible, unranked/non-tenure track academic position. Initial contract is 12 months.

The CHRG is located in the UMKC School of Medicine (SOM) Biomedical and Health Informatics Department. We focus on community-engaged and theoretical approaches to address health inequities, particularly among African Americans. With NIH and foundation funding, our large-scale intervention studies address: HIV/STDs/HCV, diabetes/heart disease, mental health, and resilience among youth exposed to community violence. Our projects consist of working collaboratively with our community and health agency partners across the research process to develop, implement, and disseminate scalable and sustainable interventions to improve health outcomes. Along with health agency partners, we've worked with KC urban churches, churches in Alabama, and churches in Jamaica, West Indies.
