Job Description

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI) at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) invites applications and nominations for theLead Investigator for the Title IX & Equity Office(DEI Consultant Sr.). As the lead investigator, provide prompt and equitable resolution of all complaints pursuant to the university's Title IX, equity-resolution, non-discrimination policies and procedures and federal and state legislation. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with academic departments, administrative units, student leaders, faculty, and staff to ensure the campus is a welcoming and inclusive place free from all forms of discrimination.

In order to support the vision and mission of the institution, the investigator must have great communication skills, knowledge of federal, state laws and regulations all while maintaining confidentiality throughout the investigative process. Reporting directly to the Director of the Title IX/Equity Office, the investigator is an essential member of the ODEI team overseeing institutional compliance by working to strengthen a culture that supports a safe and nondiscriminatory living, learning and working environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors to the institution.

Key Duties Include:
Demonstrate an appreciation of and commitment to further an inclusive culture for those of diverse backgrounds such as ability, age, class, ethnicity, faith, gender expression, gender identity, geographic region, neurodiversity, race and sexual orientation.
  • Under the direction of the Director, serve as the lead investigator responsible for conducting through and timely investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct, harassment, discrimination, related retaliation, and other related policy violations.
  • Interview involved parties, develop well-written and comprehensive investigative reports, organize evidence, and support the resolution process as required.
  • Provide periodic, timely updates regarding status of complaints received to help identify and address any patterns or systemic problems and to ensure that applicable policies are communicated to all involved parties.
  • Assist in the development and facilitation of workshops and training opportunities for faculty, staff and students throughout the academic year.
  • Collaborate with the Office of General Council to assist in the training for hearing panelists, appellate officers, trained advisors, etc.
  • Utilize specialized software (Maxient) to track, review, analyze, evaluate, process, and monitor confidential information and records pertaining to faculty, staff, student, and campus visitor interventions and equity related conduct matters for reporting purposes. Assist with specialized software maintenance, user training, and data integrity.
  • Work in partnership with campus offices (i.e. Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Human Resources, Athletics, Police Department) and University of Missouri System units (i.e. UM System Title IX offices, Legal) to develop, implement and coordinate strategic efforts aimed at the prevention of violations.
  • Serve on various committees.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced Degree-Masters in higher education, public policy, social work, counseling, juris doctorate, etc.
  • Experience working in higher education administration and experience conducting Title IX, equity and/or workplace investigations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of diversity, equity & inclusion, including experience in developing and delivering equity-related training.
  • Strong written and oral communication with experience facilitating dialogue in diverse settings and the ability to investigate complaints of discrimination, harassment, equity-related concerns.
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret federal and state equal opportunity and nondiscrimination laws, regulations and guidance applicable to institutions of higher education, including Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, VAWA, Clery, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, ADA and other related laws and policies.
  • Commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards; personal and professional integrity, high quality/standard of work, discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set priorities, coordinate multiple projects and investigations with time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to comfortably and confidently interact with faculty, staff and students at all levels of the institution.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Pay commensurate with education and experience.
Hiring Range: $56,864 - $65,000 Annual
Grade: GGS-11
