Brief Summary of Work for this Position

Office of Military Affairs (OMA) has two primary, but different functions: (1) Facilitate partnerships between UNCW and the greater military community throughout the local, statewide, and national networks and (2) Run a student center, located in Veterans Hall, open Monday through Friday from 8-5, providing direct support to students. The Director is primarily external facing, building strategic partnerships beyond the center, and supervises an Associate Director who is primarily internal facing, running the day-to-day operations of the center. While the Associate Director focuses specifically on running the center, the incumbent is also a strong relationship builder both internally and externally.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Master's degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience in student support services.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Served honorably in the military or military spouse.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

Military Affairs (MA) was established in March 2016 to develop and coordinate resources to support military-affiliated students, service members, veterans, and their family at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW). Being a military-friendly campus is an essential component of UNCW's identity and central to its recruitment and enrollment efforts. MA is a part of the Student Engagement, Enrollment, and Retention (SEER) unit in the Division of Academic Affairs. In addition to providing direct support to students, MA builds essential community engagement partnerships, connects faculty with military grant and research opportunities, and supports students enrolled at the University.
