Reporting to the Associate Dean for Biddle Law Library, the Associate Director for Collection Strategy will lead the library's collection strategy, including oversight of all collection development and maintenance functions. This position will play a key role in evaluating the library's collection in all formats and in planning and executing the move of most of the library's print collections to offsite storage over the next 3-5 years. In partnership with the Associate Dean, this position will collaborate with other administrators and leaders across the law school, university, and consortia.

Job Description
1) Collection Development
- Provides leadership and direction for development and stewardship of the law library's collections, in all jurisdictions and formats, including providing guidance to and supervising the collection development work of selectors.
- Has general responsibility for the oversight of collection development, including selection and license negotiation.
- Oversees the drafting, refining, updating, and publishing of the Collection Development policy.
- Identifies and selects appropriate materials in all formats in the areas of foreign, comparative, and international law, serving as primary selector for regions as assigned
2) Collection Maintenance
- Provides vision, leadership, and strategic direction for collection management projects.
- Has general responsibility for the oversight of collection maintenance, including weeding, collection evaluation, and collection analysis.
- Evaluates on a continuing basis all current print and electronic collections, weeding and making recommendations as appropriate for cancellation or other modifications.
- Serves as lead planning and project manager for moving most of the library's collection to offsite storage.
- Oversees the drafting, refining, updating, and publishing of collection maintenance policies.
- With the Associate Dean and others, monitors the collection budget and makes spending decisions.
- Leads or participates in substantial library procurements (e.g., large vendor contracts, significant equipment purchases).
- Leads collections-related data compilation for required reporting to the ABA, ARL, USNWR, and ALLStAR Benchmarking reports and coordinates with Penn Libraries as needed for data submission.
3) Strategic Leadership
- Represents the Biddle Law Library at NEFLLCG meetings and ensures that the library meets its NEFLLCG commitments.
- Works closely with other leaders at Penn and partner schools on collection development to enhance collaboration and reduce redundancy where possible.
- Plays a leadership role in the law library community broadly with respect to new, transparent, shared approaches to collection development.
- Lead collection development team and monthly meetings.
- Works closely with faculty to keep abreast of evolving scholarly interests and curricular developments.
4) Research and Instruction
- Provides specialized reference services on foreign, comparative, and international law to Penn Law faculty, students, and staff, the wider Penn community, and other library users.
- Partners with law school departments engaged in international work and contribute to school-wide activities such as professionalism and staff development.
- Serves as a library liaison to provide personalized services to assigned faculty, including providing in-depth research support, identifying new resources, and providing current awareness services.
- Participates in the library's educational programs.
5) Professional Development
- Contributes to the library's teams and strategic initiatives.
- Serves on professional committees and attends conferences.
- Keeps abreast of trends and new information regarding legal education and legal information.

Required qualifications:
- A J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school (or foreign equivalent) and master's degree from ALA-accredited program for library/information science (or foreign equivalent).
- Minimum five years of experience in libraries with increasing supervisory responsibility.
- Excellent management skills.
- Commitment to and demonstrated success in mentoring and support for staff professional development.
- Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships across the institution.
- Ability to work effectively and creatively with a rigorous, highly interdisciplinary, and research-oriented faculty, student body, and staff.
