The Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Innovation Management Consultant. The Management Consultant will provide consulting services to new and existing businesses in the western PA region. The Management Consultant will assist small businesses and entrepreneurs in the commercialization of new products, innovation of existing products, or in moving products through the product development cycle. The services that the Management Consultant will provide include: conducting market research of existing and potential markets, consulting on the product development lifecycle from prototyping through manufacturing, analysis of product materials using best practices, development of plans, and research and analysis for product pricing strategies.
The Management Consultant will also be responsible for supporting the initiatives of the Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence including the development of business leaders for full Institute membership and/or entry into the Entrepreneurial Fellows program as appropriate. In addition, the candidate will develop relationships with local businesses and other economic development agencies in order to heighten the profile of the Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence, the Innovation Institute and the University of Pittsburgh. This may include attending networking functions and conducting presentations including business seminars and marketing of self. The Management Consultant will have to have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with other organizations and sponsors to ensure that the programs are accurate and informational. The consulting abilities of the incumbent are important to success in this position.
Bachelor's degree and three years of product development including full product development cycles with hands-on experience in prototyping are required. Strong understanding of human centered design a plus. Experience in supplier sourcing and qualification, working with clients and suppliers, and project reporting are desired. Design for manufacturability and prior consulting experience a plus. PE or PMP a plus. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted per university guidelines.
