The Office of Pre-College Programs at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, (UTK) invites applications and nominations for our Pre-College Coordinator position. We are seeking candidates who can contribute in meaningful ways to enhancing the accessibility of higher education, fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment, improving the recruitment and graduation of our students.

The Position:

This is an on-campus position with some hybrid/remote work schedule flexibility.

The position will collaborate with the Assistant Director, the Visitors Center team, and general workflow. They will build and foster internal and external partnerships that lead to new partners as well as grow existing and new initiatives to assist the department's goals and strategic recruitment plan. This position also provides a critical role in the general coordination and implementation of STEM programs for middle and high school students and admission events through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. This position will be responsible for executing all aspects of programs directed toward pre-college students, including the Tennessee Governor's School for the Sciences and Engineering, 4H Next Chapter initiative, Tennessee State Science Olympiad, Tennessee Junior Science and Humanities Symposium, Southern Appalachian Science and Engineering Fair, Virtual Science Club and other strategic event priorities and initiatives. In addition, this position will collaborate with the Visitor Center's Event Coordinators to plan and execute admissions events. The coordinator will interact with many faculty, staff, and students at the campus level and with scientific researchers outside campus.


Qualifications :

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree-

• 2 years of relevant experience in event planning, grant-funded programs, or contract negotiation in education or other business settings



Preferred Education and Experience:

• 1 year experience and knowledge working with STEM/STEAM programs, 4-H programs, rural college access initiatives, school counseling, or science/agricultural education

• 1 year experience and knowledge working with college faculty and college students

• 3 years of experience and knowledge with event management

• Ability to function in a dynamic environment

• Excellent customer service skills

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate and interact effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, and students

• Ability to multi-task

• Excellent organizational and problem solving skills

• Excellent grammar and proofreading skills

• Proficient with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

• Detail oriented

• Possess a strong, proven record of teamwork

• Capable of working individually and in a team environment

• High level of personal initiative



Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Experience and knowledge of working with middle and high school students

• Knowledge and experience working with college faculty and college students

• Knowledge and experience with event management

The Enrollment Management (EM) division comprises more than 190 full-time staff who serve our students through the following departments and functions: Undergraduate Admissions, International Recruitment, Transfer Center, One Stop Student Services, Financial Aid and Scholarships, the Center for Financial Wellness, University Registrar, Pre-college Research Excellence Programs, EM Research & Analytics, EM Communications, and EM Operations.
