The Department of Neurology at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School (DMS), in collaboration with Dell Children's Medical Center, is recruiting a physician scientist or scientist to lead the research and technical aspects of the Magnetoencephalography (MEG) Laboratory program through UT Health Austin Pediatric Neurosciences at Dell Children's. We seek an innovative academic leader who will develop new technologies, techniques, and advanced clinical applications for the lab, as well as inspire and mentor the program's expanding team.

The UT Health Austin Pediatric Neurosciences at Dell Children's is a multidisciplinary program that encompasses child neurology, pediatric neurosurgery, pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation, pediatric neuropsychology, and pediatric neuro-ophthalmology. Since the program's inception in 2019, the faculty has grown to 20 child neurologists, including individuals with expertise in epilepsy, neuromuscular disorders, stroke, headache, genetics, movement disorders, autism, and neuroimmunology. The program currently hosts a child neurology residency program along with fellowships in pediatric epilepsy, pediatric headache, and pediatric neuropsychology.

Dell Medical School is located on the main campus of The University of Texas at Austin, one of the country's leading research universities. The medical school pursues innovation in healthcare delivery, excellence in healthcare research, and excellent professional education. Dell Children's Medical Center is a 300-bed freestanding facility that features a level 1 pediatric trauma center, a level 4 neonatal intensive care unit, a level 4 epilepsy center, and Magnet recognition for nursing excellence. The pediatric neuroscience program spans both inpatient and outpatient and includes a multi-disciplinary, 40,000 square foot main clinic adjoining Dell Children's comprised of outpatient clinical space, conference rooms, and academic office space.

For the last several years, Austin has ranked near the top of the annual US News & World Report's “Best US Places to Live” survey. Austin is a vibrant,dynamic university city, known for its live music scene, booming social activities, and international festivals such as South by Southwest. Nearby lakes and rivers as well as the beautiful adjacent Texas Hill Country provide ample opportunities for outdoor activities.

Qualifications

The technical director will be responsible for all technical and research activities of the MEG Laboratory, and work alongside the clinical director to acquire, analyze, report, and present clinical data on patients referred for epilepsy surgery evaluation. The technical director will provide advanced scientific and technical expertise to contribute to the formulation, implementation, and analysis of techniques, procedures, and results both in clinical and research applications.

Candidates must hold an MD or PhD degree in a neuroscience related field including neurology, neurophysiology, neuropsychology, neurosurgery, radiology, psychology. Required additional training includes a minimum of one year fellowship in a neuroscience field and an additional one year fellowship in a clinical magnetoencephalography setting.
