The Department of Education, Culture & Society ( ECS) in the College of Education at the University of Utah invites applications for a full-time career-line position (non-tenure track) with a focus on K-12 education of culturally and linguistically diverse populations in school and community settings that involves university course teaching, field site coordination, and service.
The University of Utah, a Research-1 public institution with approximately 25,000 undergraduate and 8,000 graduate students, supports scholarship, community-based research, and teaching. The University-funded University-Neighborhood Partnership Center and the Bennion Center for community-engaged teaching and learning anchor ongoing University-wide efforts to connect scholarship to community issues and concerns. Salt Lake City is home to a robust array of diverse communities and numerous cultural and outdoor activities facilitating numerous opportunities for interaction with a range of civic and political organizations, given the city's role as the governmental and social nerve center of the state. Utah public schools and community organizations serve a diverse student body (statewide average: eight percent ELs and twenty-six percent non-white), notably higher in its urban districts. Utah is also home to the first state-legislated and funded K-16 dual language education model in the country.
ECS is a diverse, multi-disciplinary group of scholars committed to the study and pursuit of social justice in education using cutting-edge frameworks that address class, race, ethnicity, culture, language, immigration status, gender and sexuality in educational policy and practice. ECS is deeply committed to fostering collaboration across campus and across the state's school districts, community-based organizations, and policy networks, to prepare educational professionals who are successful in diverse educational contexts; and to support distinction in teaching, service, and scholarship. The career line faculty position involves a 9-month contract, renewed annually based on performance. Salary is commensurate with experience. - Pre-service teacher preparation and teacher professional development in English as a Second Language (ESL) and or Dual Language Education,
- Family-school partnerships & community-engaged education,
- Critical and asset-based approaches to education (e.g., culturally-sustaining curriculum/pedagogy; critical pedagogy; indigenous methodologies; translanguaging pedagogy) or related asset-based educational approaches for diverse learners.

Responsibilities:
- Teach 8 core or required undergraduate and graduate courses or course equivalents (e.g., administration, supervision, district or community partner coordination) during the academic year
- Collaborate and coordinate with ECS Academic Advisor and faculty on student recruitment efforts, admissions, advising, and other program improvement areas.
- Serve on Master's of Education (M.Ed.) exam committee
- In collaboration with ECS faculty, develop, coordinate, and support K-12 district and community partnerships with community organizations offering educational services and K-12 districts to expand field experiences, internships, research opportunities, and educator preparation experiences
- Support Departmental and Faculty efforts to acquire external funding to support undergraduate and graduate-level training and K-12 community-based educational program development initiatives
- Serve on departmental, college, and university committees
- Other duties as assigned.
