Mission or Goal of Unit: Children's Hospital of Richmond of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System has committed itself to transforming the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine into a model academic unit devoted to excellence in clinical care, teaching, and clinical, translational, and basic research.
Chief Purpose of this position: The Chair will serve as the administrative head of the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, fostering a culture of excellence in clinical care, research and education. The Chief will be responsible for the strategic planning and day-to-day outcomes of the division, and will provide a mix of: direct clinical care; clinical administrative and QA/QI activities; didactic and bedside teaching for students, residents and fellows; and mentorship and career development for members of the division. The Chief will have a strong research initiative, and will be expected to sustain a nationally recognized research and or education program.
Position Responsibilities:
Teaching: Faculty member will oversee the ACGME accredited Fellowship Training Program in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine with teaching responsibilities in the area of Critical Care Medicine. Faculty member develop training program will provide teaching and mentorship to medical students, Residents, Chief Residents, and Fellows.
Research: Faculty member will have working knowledge in basic, translational, QI research methods and be able to advance and participate in clinical, transitional, and outcomes research.
Service: Faculty member will serve on departmental or School of Medicine level committees when appropriate, as well as professional through journal review, conference presentations, etc.
Clinical: Faculty member will serve as a leader and physician in Critical Care Medicine for the Department of Pediatrics. Will work weekends and take call as necessary.
Other: Faculty member will take on administrative duties associated with the role of Division Chair.
Required Qualifications:
- Board certified or board eligible in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine
- Experience with clinical care of patients ages birth to 21
- Experience with education of housestaff, medical students, and others
- Experience with research and research methods
- Experience in educational leadership
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
- Previous experience in an academic medical center
- Demonstrated excellent teaching skills
