Summary
The School of Medicine is actively recruiting for a Front-End Web Developer / Designer to serve as an integral member of the School of Medicine's (SOM) Communications & Web Team, aiding in the management, refresh and optimization of SOM and department website content as well as other related VCU sites (as needed). This includes collaborating on mockup designs, translating mockups into website content types and adding and modifying pages. Develop and maintain websites within VCU's content management system (TerminalFour [T4]) with an emphasis on website accessibility and responsive web design.
Collaborating with writer / content strategist and graphic designer / photographer to provide primary day-to-day support and maintenance for SOM and department websites; work with leadership and stakeholders to ensure content is published in a timely manner.
Develop new content types and functionality based on team and user needs as well as devise creative design solutions to improve user experience. Ensure the SOM's visual identity is expressed in a consistent and compelling way in accordance with VCU brand and style guidelines.
Assist with copy editing of web content and resolving website-related tickets entered into SOMTech's ticketing system. Serve as a T4 resource for CMS users in SOM departments.
Minimum Hiring Standards
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Public Affairs, Mass Communications, Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field. Two (2) to four (4) years of relevant work experience is required as a substitute for education.
Experience developing and supporting websites with a large number of users and content
Experience managing mission-critical projects. Experience with HTML, HTML5, CSS, CSS3, JavaScript and jQuery. In-depth knowledge of graphic design software (Adobe Creative Suite)
Ability to work in a diverse environment and with users of varying levels of technical knowledge
The ideal candidate will be resourceful, responsible, self-motivated and professional. The person chosen for this position must be able to multitask, handle shifting priorities and multiple projects, and provide excellent customer service. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse workforce or commitment to do so.
Preferred Hiring Standards
Demonstrated ability to master new technical skills and information quickly is desired.
Experience with TerminalFour, REDCap, Figma and/or QuestionPro
Knowledge of UX and UI design principles.
