Summary
VCU's Facilities Management Department is seeking to hire a Locksmith in Facilities Operations.
The Locksmith maintains detailed records of all locks and physical security systems in use throughout the University; establishes and maintains materials inventories and occasionally oversees locksmith work completed by outside contractors; and is responsible for all actions involving the creation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of all locking and physical security systems throughout VCU.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Ensures prompt response to work orders
- Install, repair, and service various types of locks and security devices
- Determine the appropriate method of key production to be used, including code cutting, duplication, impressioning and fabrication, utilizing key cutting machines, hand tools, key gauges, etc.
- Pin/Rekey cylinders as necessary, using manufacturer specifications and procedures
- Maintain accurate records of master key systems utilizing PC-based databases and documents
- Repair and install doors and frames, using hand and power tools
- On-call for emergencies

Minimum Hiring Standards
- Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of master key systems
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures
- Ability to install, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical locking and electronic access control devices, safe repair, and metal doors
- Ability to use tools applicable to the locksmith trade
- Ability to interpret, implement, and maintain pre-defined master key systems
- State of Virginia Driver's License
- High School graduate, GED, or equivalent
- Current registration with Virginia DCJS as Locksmith or the ability to complete registration requirements within one (1) year
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
- Experience in other trades including electrical, carpentry, and metalworking
- Familiarity with all relevant codes, including fire and life safety code, building codes and ADA
- State of Virginia Driver's License
