Summary
VCU School of Nursing is seeking a Simulation Technician (SimTech) to support simulation technologies and methodologies of the VCU School of Nursing Clinical Learning Center (CLC) in delivering low, mid-range, and high-fidelity simulations using task mannequins, trainers, standardized patients, and emerging simulation technologies. The SimTech operates simulation center equipment and provides technical support to students, faculty and other multi-disciplinary users. The Sim Tech will manage simulation rooms, runs simulation scenarios as needed, mannequin set-up and take down, application of moulage, medical equipment and supplies, information technology systems, as well as simulation recording and playback.
General Duties
- Consult with CLC Director or Asst. Director to identify level of simulation support needed for planned CLC events.
- Maintain readiness of all simulation equipment through repair, maintenance and/or facilitation of vendor services.
- Perform and/or facilitate software updates regularly on all simulation equipment.
- Collaborate with the CLC Administrative Professional to obtain additional equipment when needed, and/or for equipment maintenance or repair.
- Set-up for simulation and other CLC events accurately and timely.
- Provide technical support for computer-based multimedia systems and components and other technical equipment as needed.
- Running or assisting with simulation scenarios as needed.
- Prepare for simulation events prior to scheduled event.
- Clean-up and reset of simulation rooms.
- Ensure the simulation supply room is orderly and products are rotated and noted for expiration dates.
- Support simulation and other CLC events by assisting simulation facilitators with multimedia systems, operation of technical equipment, restocking and turnover between scenarios, and collaborating with the SP coordinator in assisting standardized patients.
- Sign off/complete assigned projects, to include regular team updates and communication, within agreed timeline.
- Engage in ongoing professional development through attendance at conferences, participation in professional organizations, educational opportunities, etc.
- Work collaboratively as a member of the CLC simulation team.
- Attend and actively contribute to CLC and School of Nursing meetings and events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrates knowledge of simulation-based learning in healthcare education.
- Working knowledge of simulation technology and hands-on experience. working in a simulation environment.
- Demonstrates knowledge of simulator software
- Familiar with the operation and trouble- shooting of simulation and skills lab equipment, including but not limited to manikins, laptops, PYXIS, ophthalmoscopes, otoscopes, IV pumps, vital sign machines.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students to provide technical support in computer system operations and technology.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing, particularly with regard to the development of manuals, procedures and reports.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
- Associate's degree in related field.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Previous simulation and/or IT experience
- Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHOS) certification
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support Instructor Certification or willingness to obtain
