The primary responsibility of the Financial Specialist is to provide high quality administrative and fiscal support services to the University Renovations Department in the VCU Facilities Management Division. The Financial Specialist provides highly detailed coordination of contractual policies, procedures and processes for the procurement, and contract administration of campus construction projects; ensures procurement procedures are in compliance with University and State guidelines, plans, specifications, and organizational objectives; monitors and facilitates fiscal processes for the successful execution and delivery of campus construction projects; duties are accomplished in a fast-paced environment with the ability to independently manage and prioritize multiple ongoing tasks at various stages; provides support to management and project managers in a collaborative and professional manner in order to coordinate work assignments to meet established deadlines of campus construction projects; successfully maintains effective working relationships within a team-spirited environment; provides excellent customer service and support to the University community and outside vendors and consultants. This individual works as a team member with project managers and other Facilities Management and University units as an advocate of the University and clients. Reporting, effective communication, and an active willingness are requirements of the position and its success.
Minimum Hiring Standards
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or other field directly related to the position's specific responsibilities and two years of fiscal related and office management work experience; or a bachelor's degree in no specific required field and three years of fiscal related and office management work experience; or six years fiscal related and office management work experience.
- Experience in a professional office environment
- Selected individual will be required to become a Virginia Construction Contracting Officer (VCCO) in the second year of employment (based on availability of training required)
- Ability to manage multiple and varied tasks/priorities
- Effective communication (oral and written) skills
- Knowledge of the use of MS Excel, Word, Access, and other office equipment is required
- Ability to become proficient in program and asset management program software and platforms and administrative software applications
- Knowledge of accounts payable/accounts receivable policies and procedures
- Ability to support and adapt to administrative changes within the division
- Virginia Driver's License and a good driving record is required
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
- Virginia Construction Contracting Officer (VCCO) certification desired
- Knowledge of AiM system preferred
- Proficient with virtual and remote operation technologies
- Virginia Driver's License required
