Administrative Officer for Occupation Therapy Assistant Program/Program Director

Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.

Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.

Virginia Western Community College is accepting applications for the Administrative Officer for Occupational Therapy Assistant Program/Program Director. This 12-month professional faculty position reports to the Dean of Health Professions and will serve as the lead in pursuit of programmatic accreditation ensuring that the program is in compliance with all laws and regulations of the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE). In addition, the Administrative Officer for OTA Program will be responsible for the development of the program. Once the program is implemented, the Administrative Officer will be responsible for overall leadership, development, direction, and administration of all aspects of the OTA program. This will include program supervision and management; accreditation management and compliance; student, personnel, and clinical management; curriculum development, evaluation and revisions; teaching and advising; as well as community relations.

Required Qualifications:
Must be an initially certified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant who is licensed or otherwise regulated according to regulations in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Must hold a minimum of a master’s degree in any field awarded by an institution that is accredited by a United States Department of Education (USDE)-recognized institutional accrediting agency. For degrees from institutions in countries other than the United States, ACOTE will determine an alternative and equivalent external review process.

Must have a minimum of 5 years of documented experience in the field of occupational therapy. This experience must include:

  • Clinical practice as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant.
  • Administrative experience including, but not limited to, program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation, and budgeting.
  • Scholarship (e.g., scholarship of application, scholarship of teaching and learning).
  • Understanding of and experience with occupational therapy assistants.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at the post-secondary level.

Experience meeting deadlines and organizing and directing personnel. Strong conflict resolution and leadership skills. Experience working collaboratively with the Dean, colleagues, other educational institutions, the public, business and industry, community and other stakeholders. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as computer software skills.

Desired Qualifications:
Teaching experience in an Occupational Therapy Assistant program in a community college setting.

Experience as the Director in an Occupational Therapy Assistant Program with knowledge and experience working with the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).

Experience with obtainment and maintenance of accreditation, selection of faculty and staff, as well as professional development strategies.

Experience with academic advising, student success, and retention efforts in an academic setting.

Experience using classroom technology and Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas, Panopto, PowerPoint).
