The Assistant Director of Residence Life (ADRL) is a professional member of the Office of Residence Life (ORL) within the Student Affairs division. This is a 12-month, live-on position that reports directly to the Director of Residence Life (DRL). In collaboration with the DRL, the ADRL manages the administrative, programmatic, and supervisory tasks associated with all facets of Washington and Lee's residence life office that currently serves approximately 1,600 residential students.
The ADRL has significant responsibility for all functional areas of housing operations such as housing assignments, key management, occupancy reports, room changes, and damage billing. The ADRL is also expected to co-supervise student staff (resident advisors and community assistants) and assist the DRL with housing initiatives, residence life programming, and assessment. Additional job functions include: serve in an on-call rotation (one to three weeks per term); manage housing selection, administrative processes, and databases; maintain the residence life website; assist with student staff recruitment, selection, training, and supervision; review and administer the residence life curriculum; promote the safety and welfare of all residents; and refer students to appropriate campus resources.

- Strategically coordinate all functions of housing registration, selection, and assignment processes.
- Manage the housing database for all residential students, including residence halls, theme housing, and fraternity and sorority housing. Generate administrative reports and evaluate assessment data.
- Maintain and audit all relevant housing files including housing agreements and occupancy reports.
- Enforce and support all University and ORL policies and regulations. Serve in an on-call rotation (one to three weeks per term) and occasionally complete on-campus rounds in support of student staff and Public Safety.
- Assist the DRL with the management of all aspects of resident advisor and community assistant recruitment, selection, training, development, and evaluation processes.
- Co-supervise resident advisors and community assistants to ensure fulfilment of responsibilities including, but not limited to: program evaluations, incident reports, reimbursement requests, and other administrative tasks.
- Plan and facilitate student staff meeting, training workshops, housing information sessions, or other programs as needed.
- Partner with colleagues in Student Affairs, such as class deans, in support of residential students. Provide additional support for first year and fraternity/sorority life initiatives.
- Coordinate and respond to requests for room changes, early arrival, and late departure. Investigate and respond to concerns and complaints in a timely manner that provides accurate information and good public relations/customer service.
- Maintain the Office of Residence Life website and all associated pages and provide accurate and timely communication to students about all housing or ORL matters.
- Assist the DRL with annual budget projections, maintain financial records, and reconcile accounts. Provide housing data to Billing and Dining Services for important billing processes.
- Partner with University Facilities to address work orders, preventative maintenance, and health and safety concerns. Liaison to University Facilities and vendors to manage work-flow priorities with regards to housing transitions, turnover of vacant rooms, damage inspections, key inventory, and damage billing.
- Coordinate summer housing needs with Academic Affairs and Events and Conference staff.
- Liaison with third-party student support vendors such as MicroFridge and OCM.
- Represent ORL on campus committees or while collaborating with other key stakeholders. Participate in student affairs meetings and workshops. Project a high degree of visibility and availability to student staff and colleagues. Assist with campus-wide event staffing as needed, especially move-in dates
- Complete any other tasks, duties, or responsibilities assigned by DRL and Student Affairs leadership.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Ability to utilize technology in the delivery of residence life initiatives including, but not limited to the use of housing assignment and selection platforms (E.g., eRezLife, StarRez, The Housing Director).
- Experience with the management and facilitation of groups in a higher education setting.
- Proficient skills in Microsoft Office software, Outlook, and ability to learn other systems.
- Understanding of diversity and inclusion; demonstrated leadership and effectiveness in promoting respect and appreciation for diversity and pluralism among students and staff.
- Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and management skills are essential.
- A Master's Degree in Business, College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, College Student Development or related field.
- Two to three years of experience in increasingly responsible and professional roles related to residence life and student affairs is strongly preferred (graduate experience may be considered).
- Experience with crisis management.
- Experience with conflict mediation and resolution.
- Experience with student staff recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and development.
- Experience with small, liberal arts institutions either professionally or educationally.

The anticipated salary for this position is set at $40,412.00. Furnished housing and a campus meal plan will be provided rent, utility, and tax-free.
