Pay Grade:
The LSU VTH is open and accepts emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Our state-of-the-art facilities provide immediate care and availability to a variety of diagnostics. The emergency service provides immediate triage, emergent medical therapies, and access to immediate test results as well as a full service lab. Patients seen on this service are often treated and discharged; for many there is the availability/ access to be transferred to one of the specialty services as well as the availability to an ICU with continuous observation and care.

ASSOCIATE CLINICAL SPECIALIST 1
  • Assist in the admitting, assessment and emergency stabilization of patients presenting to the emergency service. Maintain a log of emergency calls received and provide first aid instruction and general information over the phone. Maintain a daily census of all patients seen assist with estimates, entering charges and other data entry.
  • Assist and participates in utilizing and maintenance of sophisticated small animal diagnoses
  • Assist with a variety of technical clinical procedures associated with triage and the emergent presentation of small animals to the VTH. Assist with life support techniques and a variety of procedures and equipment.
  • Assist with restraint. administering medications, placement of intravenous catheters, perform venipuncture, cyctocentesis, abdominal/thoracic taps, etc. tic equipment to include but not limited to: oxygen cage, ECG, fluid pumps, and bedside blood analyzers.
  • Assist with documentation in the medical record of all information, procedures, therapies. Assist in completing requests, prescriptions, client communication, etc.
  • Assist with general instruction to 3rd and 4th year veterinary students, veterinary interns, technician interns by tutorial and example, the techniques and protocols appropriate for treating the emergent small animal to include assessment, monitoring, and recording information.
  • Be a part of maintaining the blood bank. Holiday coverage for the emergency service as well as acting as essential personnel in the event of activation during of the hospital as an emergency response facility. Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree OR Associates Degree in Vet Technology OR CVT or equivalent

ASSOCIATE CLINICAL SPECIALIST 2

  • Operate proficiently and maintain small animal diagnostic equipment to include but not limited to: oxygen cage, ECG, fluid pumps, and bedside blood analyzers.
  • Perform a variety of technical clinical procedures associated with triage and the emergent presentation of small animals to the VTH. Perform life support techniques and a variety of procedures and equipment.
  • Perform restraint. administering medications, placement of intravenous catheters, perform venipuncture, cyctocentesis, abdominal/thoracic taps, etc.
  • Perform documentation in the medical record of all information, procedures, therapies. Complete requests, prescriptions, client communication, etc.
  • Assist with general instruction to 3rd and 4th year veterinary students, veterinary interns, technician interns by tutorial and example, the techniques and protocols appropriate for treating the emergent small animal to include assessment, monitoring, and recording information.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with 3 years of experience OR Associates Degree in Vet Technology with 2 year of experience OR CVT or equivalent with 2 years of experience OR 2 years of experience as an ACS 1 at LSU SVM

ASSOCIATE CLINICAL SPECIALIST 3
  • Perform and instruct/teach the functions of admitting, assessment and emergency stabilization of patients presenting to the emergency service. Maintain a log of emergency calls received and provide first aid instruction and general information over the phone. Maintain a daily census of all patients seen assist with estimates, entering charges and other data entry.
  • Operate proficiently and instruct others to maintain small animal diagnostic equipment to include but not limited to: oxygen cage, ECG, fluid pumps, and bedside blood analyzers.
  • Perform and teach a variety of technical clinical procedures associated with triage and the emergent presentation of small animals to the VTH. Perform and teach life support techniques and a variety of procedures and equipment.
  • Perform and teach safe and adequate restraint. administering medications, placement of intravenous catheters, perform venipuncture, cyctocentesis, abdominal/thoracic taps, etc.
  • Perform and instruct proper documentation in the medical record of all information, procedures, therapies. Complete and instruct others on preparing requests, prescriptions, client communication, etc.
  • Provide general instruction to 3rd and 4th year veterinary students, veterinary interns, technician interns by tutorial and example, the techniques and protocols appropriate for treating the emergent small animal to include assessment, monitoring, and recording information.
  • Be a part of maintaining the blood bank. Holiday coverage for the emergency service as well as acting as essential personnel in the event of activation during of the hospital as an emergency response facility. Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with 4 years of experience OR Associates Degree in Vet Technology with 4 year of experience OR CVT or equivalent with 4 years of experience

Special or Physical Qualifications (ALL LEVELS):
Required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and "on-call"/relief shifts.
Per PS 18- This position is a part of the Emergency Response Personnel - these personnel are linked with the hospital during any emergency response event and are expected to report in and perform as outlined in the emergency response plan.
Required to be capable of lifting up to 40 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, able to reach and/or climb a ladder, kneel or sit on the floor, bending, squatting, and/or twisting.
