Position Summary

The Bowdoin College Education Department invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor position to begin July 2020. We seek candidates committed to excellence in teaching both practice-based and education studies courses. While the research area is open, specific topic specializations might include policy and/or urban education, secondary school literacies, learning in adolescence, and approaches to meeting the educational needs of diverse communities.

Bowdoin College's Education Department offers a coordinate major and a minor in the field of Education as well as secondary school teacher certification program. The department has a growing partnership with the refugee resettlement community of Portland, ME, where public school students speak over 50 languages and make up over 35% of the student enrollment.

Bowdoin requires a strong commitment to scholarly engagement as well as a dedication to teaching excellence in a liberal arts environment. The teaching load is two courses per semester. Ph.D. preferred, ABD considered. Experience teaching or otherwise working closely with secondary-level students and teachers is highly desirable.
