Coppin State University, a fully accredited institution and member of the University System of Maryland, is accepting applications for a Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. Founded in 1900, Coppin is a model urban, residential liberal arts research university located in the northwest section of the City of Baltimore that provides academic programs in the arts and sciences, teacher education, nursing, graduate studies, and continuing education. Coppin offers degrees at the bachelor, master, and doctoral levels educating approximately 3000 students enrolled in day, evening, on-line, and weekend undergraduate and graduate courses.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs is the chief enrollment management and student affairs officer for the University and has oversight for the strategic growth of the university enrollment, as well as a broad set of services, policies and procedures to meet the needs of a diverse student body and create an inclusive environment that promotes student achievement. The Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs reports directly to the University President and is a member of the executive leadership team. The Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs supports the mission and goals of the University and contributes to the overall success of institution wide planning with a strong emphasis on student enrollment, student learning, achievement, and satisfaction. The Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs is expected to lead the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs to create a safe campus culture that fosters a rich holistic student experience and promotes a student-centered environment with quality, passion, integrity, and inclusiveness.

The VPEMSA is responsible for the following areas: Career and Professional Development, University Counseling Center, Office of Community Standards, Housing and Residence Life, Student Activities and Leadership, Campus Information Visitor Center, Student Health Insurance, ROTC, the Office of Admissions, the Office of Financial Aid, and the Eagle Achievement Center which Military Services, University Mentoring Program, Student Support Services, Summer Academic Success Academy, CRM, and Transfer and Transition Services.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides leadership for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs and ensures the establishment and delivery of high quality and responsive student programs that dynamically engage students.
  • In consultation with executive management creates the vision and direction for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs and establishes and implements organizational goals, objectives, policies and procedures
  • Monitors and evaluates operational effectiveness and effects change for continuous improvement of student programs, student enrollment and all related areas.
  • Directs the planning efforts of the Enrollment Management and Student Affairs divisions and ensures that the division's enrollment and student affairs goals are consistent with the University's overall mission and vision and effectively meets the needs of students.
  • Effectively oversees an assessment and program evaluation effort for all areas within Enrollment Management and Student Affairs.
  • Coordinates Enrollment Management and Student Affairs activities, operations and functions for both the academic and non-academic areas of the University.
  • Develops, implements and monitors a strategic enrollment management plan that incorporates the analysis and evaluation of best practices related to enrollment management.
  • Works strategically to significantly increase student enrollment by driving a well-defined new student recruitment campaign.
  • Works collaboratively with Public Relations and Marketing to develop and drive an effective cross-media message and marketing plans for prospective students.
  • Develops a data-driven strategic plan for enrollment, student retention and financial aid with metrics and measurable outcomes for new and continuing students.
  • Develops and manages the Enrollment Management and Student Affairs' budgets and resources and acts responsively with well documented accountability for these matters.
  • Acts with due diligence and timeliness on all student compliance related matters and stays current on all student compliance regulations.
  • Informs President on significant institution-wide policy issues that would impact the University and the consequences of which would be unusually important to the University.
  • Serves as the President's liaison to the student leadership organizations and the student body and as required acts for the President in the daily management of operations and communications with the student body.
  • Works strategically with the Provost and other University leaders to successfully advance student opportunities that exist internally and within the community at-large.
  • Drives the University's student conduct processes and assures that all student conduct matters are handled in accordance with University policies and state and federal laws.
  • Plans and oversees the design and submission of internal/external reports, assessment and evaluation of programs, and initiates improvements.
  • Develops ongoing programs and opportunities to nurture an inclusive environment for all students.
  • Assists with campus-wide crisis/emergency response and preparedness and assures that support services are available to students and families in crisis or emergency situations including any requirements for services after hours'.
  • Guides and interacts with service providers for management and supervision of Food Services, Bookstore, Residence Life, Housing contracts and dining facilities to ensure high levels of student satisfaction.
  • Designs and effectively implements an organizational structure and staffing plan that will proactively enhance the ability to accomplish the University's mission and goals.
  • Manages recruitment, training, supervision, professional development and evaluation of Division staff.
Required Qualifications

EDUCATION:
  • A terminal degree is required.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Ten or more years of progressive senior leadership experience in Enrollment Management, Student Affairs and student achievement.
  • Documented track record of success effectively working within an academic environment at a senior leadership level.
  • Participation in relative professional organizations.
Preferred Qualifications

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
  • An in-depth understanding of current compliance, regulatory and risk management policies and procedures relative to all divisions in Student Affairs.
  • An in-depth understanding of best practices and growing student enrollment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory and a wide range of best practices and trends in student development programs and services.
  • Competence in applying data drive strategies to evaluate and assess learning programs and strategies with a focus on improvement.
  • Proven ability to develop institutional policies that are consistent with current trends in federal, state, and higher education law compliance.
  • Experience in providing response and assistant to students in emergency and crisis situations.
  • Ability to mentor staff and advance a culture of service and partnership with all campus and system constituencies.
  • Excellent communication skills that expand across the University community with the ability to listen to all points of view and build consensus on initiatives and issues.
  • Record of effective and innovative leadership in creating a collaborative team approach.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain a culture of respect for all people.
