Director of Counseling Services
Counseling Services at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for the position of Director of Counseling Services. The director will be responsible for ensuring that Counseling Services is providing mental health services that meet the needs of a diverse student body. As an integral part of the Division of Student Affairs, this position will supervise Counseling Services staff and operations, and serve as a campus expert and consultant on student mental health.
The Director will effectively manage campus partnerships for Counseling Services, oversee departmental budget and assessment processes, serve on campus committees, and collaborate with Student Health Services to ensure students are offered appropriate psychiatry services. In addition to the above responsibilities, the Director will manage Counseling Service's 24/7 on-call process and 20% of the Director's time will be spent directly seeing clients.
Candidates must hold a Master's degree in counseling psychology, clinical psychology, counselor education, social work, or a closely related field. Terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., Psy.D., DSW .) preferred. Successful candidates will have extensive experience as a clinician in a college/university counseling center or a multidisciplinary outpatient mental health center, experience in program development and assessment, extensive experience meeting the mental health needs of a diverse population, and supervisory experience, preferably in a campus setting.
Candidates must be currently licensed in South Carolina in a field directly related to their education or must be able to obtain their license within a year of employment. All candidates who are not currently licensed in South Carolina are encouraged to explore licensure requirements in South Carolina prior to submitting their application to determine what will be required to become licensed.

Advanced degree in counseling psychology, clinical psychology, counselor education, or related field. Clinical/counseling experience in a college/university counseling center or a multidisciplinary outpatient mental health center; experience in program development, assessment and evaluation; demonstrated experience of meeting the mental health needs of a diverse population; supervisory experience preferably in a campus setting. Preferred Qualifications
Terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., Psy.D.) in Counseling psychology, clinical psychology, counselor education or related field. Experience in a higher education setting. Demonstrated work in the area of higher education assessment and planning. Demonstrated expertise and leadership on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion to meet the needs of a diverse campus population. Required Licensure and/or Certification
Licensure or demonstrated eligibility for licensure within one year of hire. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of basic principles/theories of student development and techniques of individual and group counseling for a range of student problems and concerns; knowledge of current ethical, legal, clinical, issues relevant to college mental health; demonstrated understanding of assessment practices for students with disabilities; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public served; ability to identify, ability to supervise professional and clerical personnel; commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; ability to develop and manage departmental budgets; and ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Must be able to work independently and make independent decisions regarding programs, personnel, and clients. The Director is responsible for assessing crisis situations and developing appropriate and immediate interventions. The Director also advises the University regarding policy related to Counseling Services and the mental health of students.
