Job Description

The Department of History at Virginia Tech seeks a Military Historian at the rank of Instructor; restricted, nine-month appointment, beginning August 2020. Candidates must have independent teaching experience and a record of success in the classroom. The instructor will contribute to the War and Society minor, teaching courses in Modern Military History, World War 2, and other lower or upper division courses to be determined in conjunction with the Director of Undergraduate Studies. We welcome applicants with any geographical focus, but preference will be given to those able to teach surveys and/or specialized courses in the history of Europe, Africa, Modern Latin America, or US in the world. Completion of Ph.D. strongly preferred but will consider advanced ABD. Teaching load: 4 courses per semester. All courses will be taught remotely.

Required Qualifications

Research specialty in military history/war and society.
Completed Ph.D. or advanced ABD by time of appointment.
Record of successful teaching.

Preferred Qualifications

Specialization in the history of Europe, Africa, Modern Latin America, or US in the world.
Experience teaching remotely.
