This Multimedia Specialist supports all marketing and communication team efforts with multimedia design, such as print and web book covers, HTML emails, advertisements, promotional materials, posters web pages, video, and more. The ideal candidate is an extraordinary creative thinker with a strong command of graphic design, video, photography, and the ability to pair strong creative content with impactful marketing and communications strategies. If contacted for an interview, will be required to provide 2 examples of professional graphic design work, plus one example of professional video and/or additional graphic design work. 

Essential Functions

  • Provides art direction, design, and print production of key institute print and Web projects for a variety of internal clients
  • Determines how to best represent a concept visually
  • Designs materials including Web pages, Web banners, brochures, posters, invitations, flyers, advertisements and other communications for clients
  • Follows all projects through to delivery
  • Handles vendor selection and bids solicitation on all projects
  • Art direct photographers on photo shoots for assigned projects
  • Prepares graphic files for print production
  • Handles press approvals for quality control
  • Keeps current on design trends, emerging technologies, software and issues; shares that information with staff
  • Recommends necessary equipment and software to accomplish department goals
  • Offers design direction to multimedia specialists and assistant, and supervises student interns
  • Understands editorial design and appropriate use of design elements such as illustration
  • Understands and implements the OpenStax brand identity
  • Maintains brand identity guidelines and assets
  • Provides appropriate brand assets to internal and external constituents
  • May supervise interns or contractors
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two (2) years of related multimedia experience
    • May substitute additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis in lieu of the education requirement
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written
  • Proven ability to meet multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Creativity
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver products meeting client’s needs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Expert knowledge and proficiency in digital photo and video equipment and editing software
  • Expert knowledge of typography, color, and design principles
  • Ability to use content management systems (CMS) to edit website content
  • Ability to shoot and edit high-quality photos and videos
  • Ability to collaborate effectively
  • Ability to think creatively and solve problems
  • Ability to work in a fast pace environment
  • Ability to build and edit HTML emails
  • Ability to organize photo shoots and obtain appropriate permissions
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance or supervision
  • Understanding of marketing and communications strategies
  • Understanding of technology product marketing
  • Working knowledge of the print production process
