Samford University’s Howard College of Arts and Sciences invites individuals interested in serving in a Christian university environment to apply for a teaching postdoctoral instructor position in the History Department, beginning August 2021. This non-tenure-track position carries a three-courses-per-semester teaching load, with courses divided between the interdisciplinary Core Curriculum, which covers speaking, writing and the history of ideas, and courses in the department.  The position is a full-time, one-year appointment  and may be renewable one time for a maximum of two years.

Qualified candidates will have earned a Ph.D. in History within the past four years from an institutionally accredited university and be able to teach in their chosen field of world history, with a preference for historians of Asia (any region), Central/Eastern Europe, Russia, Africa, or the relations between separate regions.  Applicants should also indicate their interest and approaches for teaching in either the Communication Arts or Cultural Perspectives programs within the Core Curriculum.

The successful candidate should have a strong commitment to the classroom, will demonstrate excellence in student development and mentorship and collegial collaboration.  The department also seeks to support the active research agendas of young scholars. Support for travel will be available and other research funding can be earned on a competitive basis. A tenured member of the History faculty will provide supervision and mentorship for the Postdoc.

The Department of History has 8 full-time faculty positions and over 60 majors, with majors in both History and Global and Cultural Studies, as well as a concentration in Legal Studies.
